the song Solitary Man to be exact, and I started to think a little harder about my life. I've heard some people say "there's someone for everyone", but what if that's not true? What if, even though I'd like a companion, I'm destined to be that solitary man? Is it possibly because I'm not dependant on other people to make me happy, or am I, in fact, too dependant on other people? I'm neigh on 30 and I've never been married, or even engaged, which, in my circle, is pretty stinking rare. Should I suck it up, quit whining, eat some asparagus, and get a life?

I trust you all to be brutally honest. :D

I say you just quit listening to Johnny Cash.

As long as the asparagus is fresh, grilled or broiled and still crisp, then yeah, eat some. If it is that canned stuff that tastes and feels like soggy cigars made from pond scum, then no, do not eat the asparagus.

I'll be 30 in a couple months and have never been married or engaged either. I'm not too worried.

Neither one of us is even half way through life (g*d willing). If you're happy in your life, someone will see that and want to be with you one of these days. If you're not happy, work on getting happy and then see above.

Also, just for reference, according to the Census bureau, Median Age (http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0005061.html) for first marriage for men in 2006 was 27.5. That means that for eveyone getting married at 21,22,23,24,25 there is someone like us who hasn't been married. It might be odd in your circle, but it isn't in the general U.S. population.

No worries.

EH...you little matchmaker you...;)

The real irony about being single is that when you get lonely and start looking for someone...you never seem to find them, or worse...you choose someone out of desparation that is just plain wrong for you.

If I were single again, I'd just try to have a lot of good friends, both male and female. If I wasn't interested in a relationship, I'd be open and honest about it...and then, one day, when it's right....someone may show up...or not. I was at that point before I met my wife. We stayed friends and I purposely kept her at arm's length until I knew being married again was what I wanted. Luckily when I asked her she felt the same way, and we had the reassurance that our marriage is based on a good friendship. :)

Oh, and if I were single...I'd be all over snowy like a plateful of asparagus.

Don't listen much to J.C. - but his Hurt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go) song is raw and sad. :(

Oh and as to the whole point of your pondering ... there are a bunch of us in the same position, some - like me - who have struck out with marriage no. 1 ... and so keep plugging along ... there's someone out there

Well, they are both in the same state...:p .

It's like having children: some people try so hard to have kids that the stress level dooms the project. I think finding the right person has similar aspects--you try so hard to find the right person, or have a certain type in mind, that you can't relax and see that perfect-for-you person right at the end of your nose.

It's not like I'm searching, in fact, I'm quite happy when I'm not dating anyone. Sometimes, I'm much happier than when I am dating someone. It's just that I have this suspicion that the man in black is signing about me.

I was over 40 when I got married (lots of varied dating until that time). Don't worry too much about it. You probably haven't found the right one yet. When you do everything will be okay.

Yes, I do believe that there is someone for everyone. I myself do not easily into any catagory that would be concidered "normal" by society in general. Yes, it was difficult to find someone that matched just the right amount of "weirdness" while retaining a balance of sanity but I did manage.

If I can do it anyone outside of that whole Ted Bundyish crowd can. Come to think about a lot of those guys on Death Row tend to get girlfriends and wives too, but I'm sure it only works out for them because they don't actually have to live with their spouses.

I'm not loving the opposite sex right now!! Well more frustrated then anything. So, what does that mean for Snowy???? RIDING, RIDING, RIDING. :) Yup, I've managed to ride the last 5 days!! I have class tonight so its a break I have to take.

The only difference is am I the girl in black?? :)

I would suggest different music... Something more uplifting and bright.

Some possibilities:

I am a Rock - Simon and Garfunkle

I Can't Live - Nillson (sp)

Alone Again Naturally - Gilbert O'Sullivan

I am I Said - Neil Diamond

Lucky Man - Emerson, Lake & Palmer

Time - Pink Floyd

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd

Free Four - Pink Floyd

The memories of a man in his old age,
Are the deeds of a man in his prime.
You shuffle in the gloom of your sick room,
And talk to yourself 'til you die.

Do you sense a trend? Anything Roger Waters had a hand in writing. :)

Enjoy!

Give me comfortable flannels, khakis, and sweaters any time.

The last time I wore a sexy little black dress I couldn't keep the guys and girls off me... the fellows didn't realize I was a guy (I guess I make a great drag queen) and the girls found it somewhat sexy.

If I could get some plaid cycling jerseys that might work... they would go with the new kilt I'm eyeing up.

To get back on topic, i often wonder the same thing. I have a SO right now but I really can't say if it will last. Too many issues etc and we currently live 9 hours apart.

On the same note, I used to work with a 38 year old single woman. She has since stopped working at the company, but she was always going on and on about finding some one to marry. To make a long story short, we're all glad she's gone and can totally understand why no one wants to date/marry her. So if you have that sort of personality, you might be f'd, if not, i'd only start worrying in about 10 years or so.
