I'm looking for a new pair of duty boots, and am sick and tired of buying the ones in mags that supposedly are so good, yet fall apart in three months. I have 3 oakley bags, and the construction of them is awesome. I wouldn't buy another bag after seeing the quality of these bags, so I was hoping that thier shoes are the same. I just wanted someones review if any of you have used them before....

Ok, just a suggestion (hey, they're made in the US, right here in Washington :p ).

^^ You ain't kidding about bates, they are THE worst boots ever. The soles are nice and agressive. That I like. The boot it's self just falls apart. The same goes for rockys. Gave them both two shots, and both failed miserably. Thats why this time i'm spending some money to make sure they last.

Yeah, go with what fits out of the top 6 (in no particular order - meindl, altberg, oakley, hanwag, corcoran, lowa).

Meindl were the most comfortable straight out of the box but I'd already bought the hanwag boots. The hanwag were a little narrow in the toe (I have obscenenly wide feet though) but they stretched and were very comfortable to run in.

I've never seen rockys, which may be a good thing from your description.

edit: lowa

Ya, the rockys suck. They LOOK good. Nice tread, really comfy. They don't last for $h!t though....

I forgot to mention Lowa - kind of stupid seeing as how legendary they are.

Geez, I've never heard of a single manufacturer listed so far, save for Oakley. And in Oakley's case, I've never heard of them as manufacturers of anything other than eyewear and billboard clothing advertising said eyewear.

They make killer bags. I have a laptop, MTB and regular knapsack ( holds laptop too) and they rock. They make some really cool watches too!

Oakley is the best. I haven't tried their boots, but I do have a pair of sandals, which I enjoy.

I have always been a fan of Redwing. That company really stands by its product. Which isn't really needed since their boots are superb

I'm an Oakley fiend and have used a lot of their products...

Their glasses rock (I've got like 8 pairs assorted styles..)
Clothing is well made with superior materials...and their casual and golf shoes are comfy...except...

The question is duty boots...

I've only owned the S.I. Assault Boots (1st version, both black and desert) and well...they're comfy. However, wet traction on the black ones is NON-EXISTENT :(. Don't even think about running in these in the rain. Oddly the desert tan version has better ankle support (not by much) and just a little better wet traction (and here I thought the desert was supposed to be dry ). Like I said..these are more tactical boots rather than duty boots and more suited to creeping around dry areas (did I mention they SQUEAK like a mother when wet?). And they're not waterproof. Sounds like a lot of negatives for almost $200 pair of boots huh? I got them because well..it was the Oakley factor and I'm a style *****..:D If I had to do it again...I wouldn't.

I've got Bellevilles now and they're better if not as comfy..but I can fix that with inserts...
