I got a new bike today, its made by a company called Trek. Its a racing bike , is quite light and has carbon forks . Everything is ace with the bike apart from, its a double ring at the front and 12-23 at the rear, there is no noise at all from the gears on the outer front ring , nor gears 1-6 when I use the inner front ring , on gears 7-9 when Im on the inner front ring, there is that sound like it its trying to change gear, that clatterring noise, the gears are pulling strongly and I just want em nice and quiet like the others .
The gears are shimano and they are the ones were you pull the brake levers across to change , not sure what they are called.
I could go back the 10 miles to the shop and have whatever adjustment needs done, but if its a simple tweak, I could just do it myself. What do I need to do guys ?

Take it to the shop and have them either fix it or show you how to adjust it.

you should switch to the next chainring before you cross the chain like that. i don't think anything is wrong with your bike.

Huh. Never heard of that company. But, it's the shimano components that matter. The noise you're hearing is coming from the chain rubbing against the front derailleur. There are two screws on the front derailleur that set the movement of the inner and outter movement. I would recommend taking it to the shop and looking over their shoulder as they adjust it. They might charge you extra for this, but you'll then know what's going on.

Trek are quite popular in the UK where I live. So its a front derraillure adjustment ( of which i know nothing about ) then ?

James, they're having you on about Trek.
One of 2 things is happening. Either the noise is from the chain rubbing on the inside of the outer cage plate on the derailleur, in which case all it needs is a 'trim' in those upper gears (move the lever slightly in the direction of an upshift). The other possibility is that the chain is rubbing on the inside of the big chainring. In this case, there's nothing you can do except change the size of one of the rings to be closer in size to the other. This is best left to discuss with someone in person who really knows what they are doing and the resulting gear change to you.
Here is a website that can help on all bicycle repairs and adjustments.
