So, a while back I posted my "cross" Peugeot and asked if it was safe. I rode it like that for a few months and decided that it was worth buying a real cross bike. I just wasn't confident that it wouldn't taco on the trail and I couldn't put normal cross tires on it.

I picked up a old steel Fuji Cross (Late 90s or 2000-01) made of Columbus Genius on eBay and finally got it built up and took a shakedown ride today!

Anyway, some work still needs to be done.

1. I have some Salsa Poco bars, but am waiting to exchange a stem for the correct length.
2. I need to order a wider square taper bottom bracket for my old Sugino compact cranks
3. Need to change the cable routing so the Campy 9 Speed shifters work better with the Shimano 8 speed gearing (2 minutes - I forgot to do this when I built it up).
4. Replace tires (already have a set of Ritchey Speedmax)

Cool. Why the Shimagnolo setup though? And would it work better if you put a 9 speed cassette and chain on instead? No that I have any idea, just wondering.

How's she ride?

Actually, Campy 9 with the Hubbub cable routing is just about a perfect match for Shimano 8 speed (http://www.ctc.org.uk/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabID=3946#Shimano). I do have a 9 Speed Road drivetrain that I could use but am not too excited about having a road triple on the cross bike:>

Because I am cheap and this is what I had in my parts bin:>

Rides great from what I can tell from my short shakedown. I have not really had a chance to do any trail riding yet, besides riding on a gravel shoulder. Maybe in the next couple days.

Thanks for asking!

I ran Campy 9 shifting Shimano 8 Hubbubed for awhile and it was dead smooth. I really can't say that an all Campy 9 setup actually shifts any better.

Kinda nice having Ergos and cheap, readily available replacement parts for cassettes and rear mech's.

+1 on the Shimergo setup. 'cept my cross bike uses the old campy 9 shifters, a new campy der. and a shimano 8 cassette. Butter.

Just ordered the bottombracket from Harris. It is hard to find a 122.5 square taper bottombracket in stock anywhere.
