Ken Hoffman, the Houston columnist that was recently the victim of a hit and run, is also a good friend of the owner of the shop where I work. Anyhow, Ken frequents our shop often and he gets his bikes from us. To let you all know, Ken is doing quite well after the accident. He says he still has some soreness and he has some major road rash on his left calf, as well as some severe bruising behing his left knee. His spirits are high and he is talking about speaking to various groups about bicycle safety. He is adamant about cyclists wearing helmets while they ride.
He said that he received many letters wishing him well but that he received ONE letter from a woman who stated she pays taxes that go toward public highways and biways and that she had NO sympathy for a cyclist that got hit on the street, since bikes have no business being on the road. Ken replied to her that he forwarded her letter to the police.
Here are some pics of his bike. He wanted us to hang his bike in window with a sign that says "wear your helmet" but the owner nixed that idea.
So here it is: it's better to wear your helmet and not need it than need your helmet and not have it.
Take care out there, people.
his front wheel came out of it unscathed
