I have a pretty strict diet, i eat 3 meals a day 1 snack around 3-4 and keep it between 1900-2500 calories (i'm 23 and about a 156 pounds) I run 2-3 times a week and rock climb two times a week and then do long training rides on the weekend. Usually my apatite is pretty consistant but i did my first 71 mile ride last sunday and i have been starving all week, its driving me nuts i just can't get full. This ever happen to you guys after you do some long distance riding.

uh, yeah, you'll find that's not going to be nearly enough calories. when i'm riding regularly i need a minimum of about 3,000 just to be content. I find this is one of the more annoying (and expensive) things about cycling.

How tall are you @ 156? I'd say eat more when you ramp up your activity; if you're hungry and want to keep training, then listen to your body. I'm 24, 6'1" at 173 and (though I have a fast metabolism), I need at least 2500 calories, up to well over 3000 if I'm going hard. My activity is about like yours; ride 4+ times a week with at least one long ride, climb 3-5 times/week, abs & light weights daily. I can't maintain my weight and energy levels unless I get around 3000 cal.
Yeah, this week I have been absolutely starving, and it is not my usual week for that. I did ride a century on Sunday, but they don't usually affect me that way (although longer distances do). I'm not sure what's up, and I'm not too happy about it because I just lost 5 lbs ... I don't need to gain it back.

My problem is in summer of 06' i weighed 210 and was horribly out of shape and over the last two years i've made a total transformation from a lazy fat ass to a regimented athlete and i guesss im paranoid about going back to my old shape. I have always had a slow metabolisim, most people my age doing my amount of exercise would have been ripped after a year, its been a slower process for me.

there is a huge difference between 210 and 156. it's my guess that if you weighed 210 two years ago, you may not be of the body type that needs to weigh 155 to be healthy either, especially if you're not racing (maybe you are?). eat what you need to be able to sustain your activity...calories in needs to equal calories burned.

I didn't try to become 155, it just happened, every once and awhile i'll go back up to 160-165 if im doing less cardio but lately i've been sitting at 155-160, i was sitting at 170 but when i started biking and running i shot down to 155.

Yes, I'm hungry after a bigger ride. Usually for at least a day. I try to eat larger but sensible meals, but like Machka mentioned, if you are dialing down your your weight, it doesn't feel right eating as if you want to gain weight! Post ride last Saturday in Solvang was actually pizza! After a large salad, of course! Over the course of an hour I ate 1/2 a medium pizza, which is double my usual post- ride quantity. Next morning was pancakes (celebratory), then an omelet, then I finished my girlfriend's pancakes (overindulge)! Again, twice my normal quantity. That was it for over eating. Dinner was back to a chef's salad. I could have continued, but I knew that I was done replenishing, and I want to stay at my current weight. Just my experience. :)
In my case, I've been craving protein and fruit. Now maybe it has something to do with the fact that I went from exercising about 1 to 1.5 hours a day, up to covering 600 kms in 2 weeks (the last 2 weeks of February), and then did a century the weekend after that (March 9th). Perhaps my body is telling me it needs protein to build muscles and fruit for the vitamins or something.

I've been craving carbs, today i had an extra bagel on top of the 1.5 i had for breakfast...**** i've had no self control this week, i mean i know this is a minor thing compared to most people when they loose control of their eating habbits but it bothers me, i hope this stabilizes, otherwise i'm goign to have to muscle through it, i can't go back to my old habbits...then again my old habbits would have been del taco burrittos or a snickers bar vs. an extra rasin bagel or small bag of trail mix or granola.

Actually i just did the math, i have roughly 780 callories left for dinner, out of my 2000...so thats really not too bad, maybe im just super ocp and need to chill
I find that a graham ******* peanut-butter 'sandwich' is a good snack for those cravings....just don't go nuts on the PB.

My friend is making me vegan cookies tomorrow i might bring some on my ride haha, probably not the best thing.

I always, always crave protein and fat, and doing a couple of long rides just makes it worse. Recently work has kept me busy so I've only been able to grab a couple of hours here and there on the bike, so the cravings have abated a bit.
Increased food costs are an expense I wasn't expecting when I started cycling!
