Does anyone know if rims exist that are wide and light? I would like to get some new ones that are ~28-30mm wide but don't have the weight penalty of a DH rim. I'd like them to be under 500g. I use big tyres (2.5f and 2.3r) and think the wider rim would hold the tyre better.

The closest thing I can find at the moment is the Dice EFD, but it weighs around 550g.

Sounds like an oxymoron. Kinda like Jumbo-Shrimp.

I honestly don't know. Salsa rims tend to run a little wider than most, check them out.

why an oxymoron? I understand they aren't going to be as light as a Mavic 317, but most of what I've seen is either 22-24mm wide xc rim, or 28mm + dh rim that weighs 600g plus. Am I the only one that uses big tyres for xc? I have found that if I run less than 28psi on my front Weirwolf 2.5 it rolls under on hard cornering. I don't think I'm too hard on rims as the 400g WTB front and x139 rear haven't needed truing yet, so carrying the equivalent weight of another rim between the two seems pointless to me. My Dawg is already over 30lbs.

Thanks a2, I just checked Salsa, but the same story there too. I'll have to keep looking.

oh. I'd choose strong and light. Doesn't mention width.

A good bet for strong and relatively light is the mavic F219. Currently i run Mavics X139 but i want something stiffer for my new upcoming ride (EnduroSX). The F219 is 26mm i think and it weighs at 570g. I dont think you ll find anything sub500 which is strong as well....i ve been there and i know.

mavic's cross mountain series of new rims should fit the criteria you're looking for.
