Mountain Biking - Got my new bike together....finally!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well after 2 1/2 months of waiting for parts my new bike is finally built. It is a 2003.5 Santa Cruz Chameleon. I am going to be using it primarily for XC. It isn't exactly a lightweight but it should be able to take anything I can throw at it. I'm hoping that training on a hardtail will help me learn how to pick out lines again.

Anywho, what ya think?

I think it's sweet! What fork is that?

White Brothers XC1.0. It is 100 mm. Same fork I am using on my Superlight, my personal favorite.

With a new steerer tube pressed in I hope!

Nice bike!

Is that the pewter color or blue anodized? Hard to tell from the picture.

It is the gun metal grey. This picture may be a little better.

I just took my first ride on it. I love it! This is the first hartail that I have ridden in two years that I really enjoyed. BTW, they aren't joking when they say that it has a stiff rear triangle.

I would have bought one if I hadn't had my roast. I found the frame really cheap and fell in love with it :)...very nice rig

is it just me, or does it look kinda like it has a really short top tube? how do you like the geometry?

Thanks everyone, appreciate the compliments! :D

As for the top tube I don't think it is short at all. It is the exact same as my Superlight. It is 23.25". Here is a link to the Chameleon geometry. (http://www.santacruzmtb.com/bicycles/chameleon/specs.asp)

It feels perfect to me. I was really worried about getting back on a hardtail but so far I have had no problems. I am clearing everything just as well as I was on my dually. I believe that this is really going to help me to remember how to pick out lines, I haven't had to do that for a while. I have always just relied on the rear suspension to bail me out of trouble. The two rides that I have had on it so far are two of the best rides I've had all season. It could just be that new bike thing though.

hmm, must've just been the pic...it looks normal in the second one. Very compact and sexy looking. I like how the white bros fork looks sorta old-school...
