Season opener in Australia. I'm a team Ferrari fan but I really like how Hamilton drives a car. Hopefully it will be even better this year without the traction control.

Boring. I'm looking (hoping) for BMW or even Williams to win a race this year. It would be nice for Bourdais to make an impression, but Toro Rosso seems like a dysfunctional team. :rolleyes:

You ever see the in-car footage of Senna going around Monaco with a manual shifter? It was crazy, taking some curves with one hand on the wheel as he shifted with the other. OK, so it's a little dangerous, but it would make for better racing.

Yeah that video is awesome. Everytime i see some old school speed racing of any kind (skiing/auto you name it) I get more convinced that you had to be nuts to do it back then.

I'm pulling for Hamilton. Like to see Bourdais do well also. I just want some competitive races.

F1 is almost making me want to get a TV.

Slicks were the reason why grooved tyres were introduced in the first place. The grooves were meant to reduce the grip. A reduction in power and a major revamp of aerodynamics would have been better, along with deletion of all pit-controlled electornic devices.

F1 is boring and will remain so. I went to two (when it was in Adelaide) and went to sleep both times. The only real interest for me was the qualifying and the tactics involved.

The Australian circuit in Melbourne is renowned for being almost impossible to pass on, so it becomes a procession, not a race. Most street circuits are the same. I lost interest when Damon Hill won the championship -- a mediocre driver in a car that was at the time technologically superior to the others.

The Schu-man was good and it's a shame he and Hamilton aren't racing each other. That possibly would have been interesting. Both also seem to have the personality that makes news. The Finns, on the other hand, are technically very good, but equally as boring in personality as the racing.

I much preferred the lower levels of technology in Indycar/CART/whatever schemozzle it ended up being. Those cars were a real test of driver ability and team tactical skills. Having the same or similar chassis helped.

Incidentally, the days of the Australian GP are numbered. I think the contract goes until 2010, then after that, it will go to some other rich country that can run it so the poor darlings in Europe don't have to stay up late at night to watch the race. I know of a LOT of Melbourne people who won't mourn the passing of the race to another country.

Keep the paddle shifters - any increase in technology is great.

I used to be a Honda fan back in the days when they were king. F1 started get boring for me after that.

Get rid of pit to car radios at the least. Really happy that the traction control is going. I also like the idea of reverse grids.

Overtaking through the pit stops is dull.

Have bought my tickets for the Singapore (night race). I get a fantastic view of a quarter of the track from my office window. It will be surreal.

It is a shame but Hamilton/Raikkonen isn't too shabby. It doesn't compare to Senna/Prost but you can't have everything.

The irony was that Senna was killed by an engineering error. Prost, however, has been in the news lately, lamenting the paucity of driver skill and how boring F1 is.

Someone mentioned Bourdais. He hasn't been mentioned in despatches from Melbourne yet. The transition between Indy/CART/Shambles and F1 and vice versa isn't particularly easy as many have found. He was quoted last week, however, as saying he had been extremely lucky to have made the move to F1 this year, as he would not have had a hope in hell of winning the American series after the "reunity" just weeks out from the first round... his team wouldn't have been able to prepare a competitive car in time.

most forms of auto racing are pretty darn boring nowadays. drag racing's o.k., mostly because it's over quick. stage rally is o.k., but difficult to watch (except on t.v.). road rally is immensely fun to do, but possibly the most boring motorsport to watch, ever.

the only time i go to a racing event anymore is if i'm driving or it's a vintage event.

Best road race event I ever saw was the 2002 WSC (SBK) finale at Imola. For two races Colin Edwards and Troy Bayliss passed each other lap after lap and fought to the bitter end, with Colin winning both races and the championship.

Motorcycle road racing is definitely way more interesting than open wheel cars. Need to reduce aerodynamic grip drastically if we want to see some improvement.

If you watched the Australian grand prix -- did you notice that there is a bicycle lane down the main straightaway?

I didn't notice until they were showing the slow-motion replay of Timo Glock's crash toward the end of the race...you could see the bike lane markings and a painted bike very clearly. Wonder if it's safe to bike during a race.

Sorry, but the bikes really do have it over the elite car racing at the mo. A guy on the edge on a bike is far more impressive that what we see in cars. And the stakes are a damned sight higher! The cut-and-thrust also is far more interesting.

Should be an interesting year. BMW proclaiming at least one victory this year, etc. BMW backed up there statement a bit with their finish. I say a bit only because Austrailia always provides unusual podium finishes. I'll wait to see how they do in the next few races before I'm convinced that they can get a victory this year. I can't beleive the carnage. My man Kimi isn't starting the season too well

Finally, a car other than a McLaren or Ferrari wins a race, and surprisingly a driver for a non-McLaren / non-Ferrari team leads the championship!
