Bike in question is Bianchi with Chromolite tubing

The front derailleur hanger broke off on my morning commute and I want to get it brazed/welded back on instead of going with a clamp on derailleur.

I found a guy who will do it for $50 but I know a welder who has a TIG machine. The bike is not lugged and it looks like TIG welds so I figure this is safe to do, plus it'll be cheaper than paying this other shop to do it.

Anyone know anything about Chromolite tubing and its properties? Safe to TIG weld? Lets hope so.

Why don't you use clamp? That way you don't have to do so much paint damage, possibly just file the down tube clean and touch the spot up. Second I'd try silver braze. TIG welding seems like an overkill.

better yet, why don't you take your frame in for warranty work.. i did, and i ended up upgrading to a much nicer frame (free frame replacement under warranty!)

As deleriou5 has stated try taking it in for warranty. You dont know unless you ask.

As compH has stated, use a clamp on derailleur. Carefully file the remnants of ther old hanget off, touch up with paint and use a bolt-on.

Most welders will have great difficulty tig welding thin bicycle tubes. Its not worth the risk of destroying your frame and having to repaint half of your seattube.
