I'm moving this to it's own thread, since it was stuck at the bottom of a completely unrelated thread.
I am interested in purchasing a Kona Coiler, to use as a heavy duty XC (light freeride) bike. Meaning as much up-hill riding as down hill riding. The one thing this bike is lacking for this kind of riding is some sort of lockout (or SPV) on the front fork. I would like to put a lockout such as ECC or ETA onto the bikes existing Drop-Off Comp if it is possible, as I will most likely not have the funds to upgrade immediately to Z1 FR or other ETA fork when I finally make the purchase.
In the other thread, some posters mentioned that ETA cartages could be installed into Drop-Off 2 forks. I know the Comp is different than the 1 & 2, because it is a Taiwan assembled version of the fork. I'm wondering if anyone knows if the internal dimensions are the same?...if so could the same upgrade be applied to the Drop-Off Comp?
The other option I found was this: http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/acatalog/ECC___EXTENSION_CONTROL_CATRIDGES.html
They sell ECC cartage upgrades for 130mm DJ's and 2002 Z1 Drop-off & Wedge. Again, anyone know if the internals of the Drop-off Comp are similar to the internals these other forks? (all use SSV Cartridge, right?) Would it be possible to retrofit this kit onto a 2004 Drop-Off Comp?
Any feedback or help with this would be much appreciated, and will help me with my bike shopping decision. :-)
