Is this generation of powertap worth buying or is it not worth it because of age and it possibly breaking and not being able to find replacement parts?

I say go for it. Got mine for 500 1 year newer than that and never had any problems.

If it stays at that price I would consider it. As far as I know, the PT has gotten better from version to version. They've made it more durable (water protection, etc.) and more robust in terms of signal strength. If something doesn't work (as) well, you might be out of luck.

Something to keep in mind is you can get almost all of the bells and whistles (short of wireless) of much more recent used PT SL between $550-$750.
