Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - New 2006 Pista Concept: Good buy?

I found a new 2006 Pista Concept in my size locally. To top it off, the bike shop salesman (who I ride with on occasion) is throwing in a 10% discount if I pull the trigger today. With discount, the price would come to $974 out the door (after tax). My question is are these bikes really are rare and special as they are portrayed to be on the boards? Is this a deal that I need to jump on? Or is my lust for this bike's beautiful lines, features, and reputation leading me to think this deal is something better than it is?

To top it off, my fiancee gave me the not green, but not red light on this purchase.

Great bike at that price for the track, you'll be sponsored before you lose any races because of it. Waste of money for the street, I guess worth it if you like the looks, but otherwise wrong tool for the job.

buy it and flip it on ebay (in parts), then you can buy a bike better suited to your needs

2006 was like 2 years ago, thats not new... its un used.

They're nice bikes, backed by an awesome company. also quite aesthetically pleasing, with their celeste.

Thin aluminum tubing means that you will be able to esily personalize the bike...with fingerprint-sized dents.




Seriously don't buy this as your main street ride. Get a beater bike, and save this for Sundays or the 'drome.

But yeah, I wouldn't do it as a daily bike either. Steel for daily, Concepts for velodromes, sunny days, fast rides, alleycats!!!

Put this **** in perspective. Ride whatever the **** you want, dont worry if its steel or aluminum. If you want the bike then get it.

buying a nice bike to ride on "sundays" doesnt really make sense to me. I'd want to ride my really nice bike every day as often as possible and only ride my beater when i had to lock it up for a really long time or some other sketchy situation. you spent all that money on it, might as well ride the **** out of it right?

Seems like a fair price to me. Not sure that's a bike you want to be commuting and locking up though. I suppose it depends on the area you live in, if you feel okay leaving it out there. Maybe get a pair of U-locks.

Agreed. I ride an aluminum as my everyday bike. I say go for it. If it doesn't work out you can easy flip it for more.

$974 after taxes is a great price. That's basically shop cost.

It's a great bike. You will likely swap the tubular wheelset for a clicher. So, maybe just take them off immediately so you can sell them as new.

Oh, for sure, I was just saying in terms of theft-avoidance. I have nothing against riding any bike daily. Better it get used than unused.

Update. I did not buy the bike, but I'm sure I still have the option too if my mind changes. After doing more research, the price is certainly not a bad one. Unfortunately, I'd have to dig into the wedding budget to buy it, and that'd be less than wise. Damn you, responsibility.

Carleton, judging from your sig, I would say you are a pretty good source on Pista Concepts so it's good to know that you find no issues rocking this bike on the street. Thanks for your input.

As for theft, is not a huge issue... unless someone is bold enough to steal it right out of my garage or cube. Those are really the only two places this bike would reside without my hand on it. And if that does happen, the Concept would be the least expensive bike to be taken.
