Introductions - Returning back to cycling.....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi everyone, I'm a southern Californian who'll be moving up to the central coast (monterey Bay) and am looking into returning back to cycling. Recently, I've been looking for a bicycle that works well for all-around terrain commuting and could use some suggestions on good models at affordable prices ($400-800). Touring bikes looks practical but my choices aren't stamped down to those models alone. Can you folks help me out?
P.S. I don't know the proper size to look for but I'm 5.9/5.10 with a slightly longer arm reach, not quite knuckle dragger:rolleyes:.

My first suggestion would be to visit all the reputable LBS (Local Bike Shops) in your area and start your search there.
Most good shops will allow you to take something for a ride and some bike shops will rent bikes for the day or weekend, which gives you a better feel for the bike.
After you get a feel for what you want visit the forum that fits.....commuting/road cycling/mtb and start asking questions there.
Welcome to biking and good luck.

Hi homeslice, do as LastPlace suggests, and hit the local bike shops. Also, if you see someone riding around on a recumbent, and if that person has a lot of kids with him, you could be seeing fellow member Dr.Deltron :D . So, wave at those recumbent riders!
Welcome to BF!
