"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - How many steel barriers did you knock down today?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

If the answer is more than ten, you have me beat.
Grant's Tomb Crit, cat 4. I should have taken the hint, my first name is Grant. I didn't have enough for a final sprint, but was enough for 5th. Unfortunately the guy who won was busy celebrating as I was sprinting through the finish and he drifted over and forced me into the barriers. Helmet is trashed, but it did it's job, and nothing is broken (same with the bike, surprisingly). Someone with a very nice camera said he got some good pics, but I was still seeing stars, so if you have any, PM me.
Fingers crossed to be back on the bike tomorrow.
sorry to hear it was you he plowed--I heard the noise from a block away and was certain at least 25 riders had gone down. heard he was dq'd.

Thanks for the concern, I'm recovering well. The only lingering effects are a tender wrist and a bruise on my left hip that is growing and turning interesting colors. I'm waiting on some promised pics taken head-on as I went down, though the nyvelocity site has some good "after" shots.

Your name is Grant and you went and did a race named Grant's Tomb?
Man, talk about tempting the Fates.
Glad to hear you're okay. Did you check nyvelocity for any pics? They usually get all of the NYC races in the Monday Hangover section.

Glad you were ok. Get used to trash talk on Velocity. I have been the recipient of my fair share as well. Oh, and a 5th place with a crash is still upgrade points. Time to change your 'o-meter.'

Hey Grant, we met at Rutgers- you were the one to tell me that actually wasn't a prime I had just sprinted for! I now do my best to ignore spectator cowbells. Anyways, I was right across from the crash but didn't manage to get any pics. It was a totally ridiculous thing to have happened- I'm sure its been argued in length on that other forum. One thing to add though, after another USCF rider from a different team came over to say that all us cat4's should always keep our hands on the bars (its not the tour!) One of the riders from the offending team was like, "yeah, well, you're like a cat 5!"
Burned! (of course its a 4 race)
Hope you are doing alright, and we'll make that next one stick.

And if the guy was DQ'd isn't Grant 4th, not 5th?

I know that my username is my first initial and last name, but it's still a little weird to see people on the internet calling me by my real first name. Just an initial impression.
Thanks all for the support an encouragement. I'm recovering just fine and am using spring break to put in my biggest volume week this year, so everything still works.
As for upgrade points, USA Cycling's website (http://usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=580) requires that for 4-3 upgrade a criterium must be a minimum 20 miles. We did 13 laps of the course, which is about 11 miles, so I haven't updated the cat-o-meter. If anyone knows different, I'm all ears.
None of the chatter on nyvelocity bothered me except for the guy trashing on my fiancee. I can take it, but she has been the most unbelievably supportive person of my demanding hobby, more than I could possibly imagine. So that set me off.
After the crash my teammates are constantly pointing out steel barricades I haven't knocked down yet, so at least we can all laugh about it now.
Java, next time we'll definitely make it stick.

Fair enough. Still disconcerting though.
It creeps me out when people call me Brandy. I'm right there with you Grant. ;) :p

if it's that disconcerting, perhaps you shouldn't have included it in your initial post.
