ok why is it we drive cars and must carry auto insurance but yet someone can ride a bicycle down the side of a highway and have to carry nothing . How many times has traffic slowed down because they get behind some of these stupid ass people on these high dollar bikes . anybody got a rubberband gun so i can pop them in the ass as i go by . I mean you ride a motorcycle you have to have insurance why should bicycle people be any different

I love the incoherence of thought in this ad. What does insurance have to do with riding slowly? Is it possible the writer is jealous of the rider? After a quick google, discovered there ARE bicycle insurance companies, but usually in UK or Australia. Then there's the Better World Club (http://www.betterworldclub.com/) that does AAA type stuff but also supports bikes.
<after reading that thread> Considering the thread is titled Rants and Raves, seems to promote incoherence. Responses 1 For bikes, 1 Against bikes. But it seems fat people and unhappy spouses are more popular.
Yah, like the guy in Keller who wants to run down everyone with his big truck or have everyone smashed by a train. Probably wasn't breast fed as a small child and never got a bike for xmas.
"never got a bike for xmas." - Y'know, that's probably the case. I know a few people who actually never did get bikes when they were kids. I don't know what their parents were thinking, it's not like they were very poor. Very Strange.
What would insurance cost for a bicycle?Under 25,Fixed gear,Street rat,touring,Racing,colision,no fault????
Aside from the original post, thanks for the link to Better World. I gotta check this out. Thanks Jim.
I'm not from Texas, but I think someone should contact that poster with services or other commercial interests.

Since the invention of air conditioning and video games, there's a lot of kids that haven't the slightest interest in ever riding a bicycle. They never got a bicycle because they never wanted one. Ditto with toy trains and some other goodies.

Yes, but even the kids who get bikes are told, "Don't ride in the street, but if you do, ride facing traffic."
Go figure.
"I'm not from Texas, but I think someone should contact that poster with services or other commercial interests." Dang It...Hotmail won't let me forward or reply to stuff in my junk folder...Anybody got any ideas how to do this?
It's a prime idea....
I never got a bike for Xmas, but it had the opposite effect, lmao! I now have close to 40 of the darn things, and can't seem to get below that number. Every time I sell one, I find two to bring home.,,,,BD

I would expect that it would be included under your homeowners or renters or "full time RV'er" insurance. That is my expectation as to the liability component anyway, which is all the "ranter" on CL should be worried about. So that means that most cyclists have coverage for the damage they cause. As do skateboarders, pedestrians, etc. I suspect it is only because of the unique risks and larger potential damages presented by cars that they are excluded from homeowner policies. If someone has other information that this risk isn't included with homeowners policies, could you post as I do want insurance for the damage I might cause; i.e. I don't want to have my own personal assets pay the damages. I should probably call my insurance broker about it anyway.
