So I didn't do the time trial, but met up with Taxi777 and uspspro, who did do the TT. I'll let them chime in with a report a little later.

Myself and Bostic ride up to meet Taxi777 and uspsro in Woodside, meeting at Bucks. We rode from Los Altos, and as usual, passing up Team in Training. Why is it that we always ride through their training ride? Anyways, we were on our way to Woodside then Bostic gets a flat. By the time we got that taken care of, we met up with SesameCrunch, who arrived at Bucks the same time we did. Taxi777 and uspspro were there, but they chowed down a big breakfast.

We rode up to Canada and Edgewood, and we were fixing uspspro's flat. By the time we got that taken care of, we decided, due to time constraints, we should try to catch BlastRadius along the route on the bike trail north of Sawyer's Camp. We eventually met up with him, 4 miles up from Sawyer's Camp.

Onwards to Foothill College to meet the rest for the memorial ride. There was a huge crowd showing up, as expected. Hooked up with a couple of former co-workers at NetScreen, that I haven't seen in over 5 years. It was great to see them, and even better to find out they are cyclists too ... :D

The memorial ride was more like a procession. We took up all but the fast lane on El Monte, and the entire right lane on Foothill Expy. If I was to take a guess, there was about 1000 riders out there. That drawfs the turnout for the John Peckham memorial ride a couple of years ago. I saw newscrews from Channel 7, Channel 5, SJ Mercury News all out in force covering the ride. There was also presense of helicopter coverage too.

We got to the scene of the accident, and I could see many emotions filling up every cyclist that passed through here. It is so gut-wrenching to think this is the same area that I do weekly after work rides, and never think about it as being an area of danger. It is just over the ridge, before you even get to the entrance to Stevens Creek park area. Seeing where the accident took place, I could see there was nothing they could have done.

About 30 minutes later, we all headed back the way we came. We took a quick stop off at Peet's Coffee. Felt sorry for the folks working that day, as they were not prepared for seeing a crowd of cyclists coming to the coffee shop. Oh well. We split our ways at this point.

It was a really long day. Left the house at 8:45 am, and didn't get back home till around 5:30 pm.

Stats:
Distance: 72.60 miles
Elevation Gain: 3178 feet
Average Speed: 15.0 mph before getting to the Memorial Ride
14.0 mph including the procession on the Memorial Ride

My computer flipped out today so no stats other than milage (which was Pete's +10)

I got 95 miles today!

The memorial ride was site to see. I am really glad they did it, and really glad I was part of it.

Just a few photos. It was a moving event. TV said 800 riders, but I thought at least 1200. It was a slow ride. It was hard to ride that slowly until I stopped thinking ride and started thinking memorial procession. Though it was a sad event, it was heartening to be part the cycling community and get to show our support for the victims, their families and cyclists everywhere.

Wow, what a turnout!

Judging by the last photo, even Bruce Campbell showed up, in a Northern California jersey, no less! :)

Another great ride and what a tremendous turnout of cyclists under the unpleasant circumstances. Whoever it was who said critical mass with lycra, that's what it felt like to me. I was bummed that I got a flat earlier in the morning but in the grand scheme of things it was really a non-event. And as usual I got to ride on new routes that I have not been on in the past.

The Merc news, in contrast to their earlier stories, ran a very moving piece that I think captured the feel of the event beautifully.

What a great turnout. Thanks for sharing the photos and the video.
I was planning to join, but I had to wait for a furniture delivery (not from Sleep Train :p) that showed up after 2pm
I'm sure it was a sad and very emotional event.
Anyway, It's great to see a lot of NorCal jerseys on those photos.

They need to move my results over to Merckx.

I got 2nd place in Merckx, but they stuck my time in the open class.

My time looks like crap when put in with all the spaceship bikes ;)

I sent them an email.

I bet the "Dopers Suck" socks added enough power to overcome the facial hair, so it's okay.

Hey guys, thanks again for towing me back to Canada Road, I really appreciate it. Also it was nice to say hello as well. The wait for AAA wasn't too bad, as I sat behind my car semi-protected from the wind and shivering a bit, a couple in a SUV parks 100 ft in front of me and 'talked' *ahem*. They left just before the tow truck showed up. I thought they'd either move so I wouldn't be there looking at them or atleast offer me a seat!

Well at least you got to pass the time with some entertainment. Good to see you. Good luck with the training and racing. Stay in touch and hop in on a ride soon.
