Question: What do Coolangatta, Surfers Paradise, Spicers Gap and Brays Creek all have in common. They are all places I have crashed in 2001. The former being the most recent (as in just over an hour ago). This one was bad. My helmet is now totally f*cked, but at least it did it's job (i.e. I'm still here).
So how did it happen you ask? Well, it was raining and I just didn't slow down to make a right turn (the same as a left for those in the US) at a roundabout. The back wheel slid out, and my head hit the deck. I think I'm OK (I tested myself by recalling stuff that I need to know for university) but it was scary!
I'll be off to get my new helmet later on today, and rest assured I will definitely wear it!

Man, I'm glad you're ok! Use Neosporin ointment on those abrasions. See the doc, if you have insurance. I'm feelin' for ya, man.
By the way, I got my replacement helmet yesterday. I'll be ready to ride, as soon as my back heals...I injured it washing my hair! Laid me up for several days. The other times I did the same to my back was when I picked up a sock from the floor; when I gagged as I brushed my teeth; when I knelt down to look at the bottom shelf at a discount store...
I never hurt my back when riding my bike; when lifting 40 pound boxes; when pushing a 1 1/2 ton car up a hill...
But bend over to brush my teeth, or pick up a sock, or wash my hair...
Try yoga for that back, Pete. Get well soon, both of you.

And you're the one who said you love riding in the rain! Heal quickly and painlessly. :)

Be mended soon :)

Gee, I just nearly wiped out, myself! It started snowing on my ride this afternoon, and I come around a corner, the rear-end slides right out! Just try to unclip!
I thought that maybe I could do a dirt-bike manoeuver by putting the inside foot out, but luckily I caught a crack in the pavement just in time!
Oh, well, next time I'll have to use the studded tyres, I guess.

Well all, I is back on the bike now, with a spanky new helmet to go with it. Yesterday mornings ride was OK, but I'm still a little nervous on the corners and roundabouts though (how long will that last?). I've also made friends with the rain again :D
Crashes such as yours are one reason I consider my Bianchi a fair-weather toy. If the roads are wet, I ride either a road bike with at least 28mm wide tyres or my mountain bike.
