The RMCCC traveled to Durango for a TTT, crit, and RR hosted by Fort Lewis this weekend. The TTT this morning was pretty uneventful - 25k point to point with a big climb (called Shalona I think, for anyone from Durango) at the end. Sucked on a TT bike with a 44/21 but still made it up just fine.
This afternoon came the fun part. A 6 corner, .5 mile crit with a 300m climb thrown in the middle. I rode the with the power tap today since I don't have a whole lot of power data from racing, and I figured that this one would be pretty interesting with the climb. Mens A was supposed to do 60 minutes, but we ended up doing a bit over 50 for some reason.
My job for the day was to be a workhorse, since our sprinter is back (national champ last year). Make the climb fast, bring back breaks, all that jazz. I ended up on the front quite a bit with my two other teammates assigned to the same duty.
The climb split everything up pretty quickly, I think about half the field was gone at about 30 minutes. It's pretty easy to see why looking at the numbers! My 138 lb self was putting out 750-1100 watts for the 15 second climb every lap - we did 38 laps. Nothing like a nice hour long session of 15s on/45 slightly less on intervals.
Long story short, I ended up pulling a break back with 2 to go. Pulled it back right at the beginning of the climb, blew up, got passed by the whole field (by this time down to about 30) and was gapped by about 10m at the top. Decided that 2 laps to go was not the time to get dropped and gave it everything to get back on on the short downhill. Made it to the back after another short sprint, moved up over the next 3 corners by taking some slightly dangerous, but very fast, lines so I was about 1/2 way up by the field. At this point I was already so far beyond red-lining it I'm sure it was just last-lap adrenaline that kept me going. We hit the climb and I hit it absolutely as hard as I could and moved up to about 13th wheel. Sat in the for the 5 second downhill, came around the last corner on the outside and sprinted for the line, passing a few guys in the last 50m or so. I think I ended up 9th or 10th.
Now for the numbers:
Max watts: 1218 (final sprint)
5s: 886
1m: 411
av: 243
Normalized: 314
I think the difference is just because there were so many corners, so there was a lot of gliding. Every time I looked down while pedaling it was over 300, but spending a bunch of time at 0 kills the average.
and the graphs

sample 3 laps: start finish is about 10s after the power peaks.
