I half expected to see some sort of bubblegum pink monstrosity with little hearts glued to it or something. Thats really quite nice looking!

I like Hembrow's baskets, but the weak dollar makes them a bit too rich for my blood. The store I found in Portland wants $45 for the crochet-style basket, as opposed to Flying Pigeon's $100
BTW, one of the reasons I really like it is because I crochet myself. :)
Cynthia's Twigs has baskets in the $45 range

My wife insisted on one for her Raleigh Colt. Got it from Cynthia's Twigs (http://cynthiastwigs.com/) very pleased with the basket and the service.
Found this link today to The Basket Lady (http://www.basketlady.biz/customer/product.php?productid=48&cat=0&page=) don't know anything about them.

One of these days I'm getting a set made by Hembrow for my gf's trike, a front basket and a matching large rectangular one to replace the wire basket her ride came with, those with some wooden fenders and chainguard from Woody's Custom Cycling Fenders (http://www.woodysfenders.com/index.html) will give it a nice retro look.

And you'll have to crochet a hat and scarf or shawl to match it.
My friends sell this basket in their shop. It looks cool, but one thing that puzzled me is that it has those out turned curved bits all around the perimeter which means they are bumping up against you all the time when carrying it. Doesn't seem particularly comfortable. I'm surprised they didn't leave the back flat so that you could carry it with that side against you.

I don't know how well that green is going to go with your red bike. The white isn't working either. I think your best bet is to go with the black one and put a red or silver stuff bag inside so the color shows through all the multiple holes. Or maybe paint it.

You could always rattlecan it, I think it's Krylon that makes a spraypaint that supposed to bond really well to plastic.

So I went to see the basket today. I'm not going to buy it.
First of all, it was a hideous shopping experience. It's pretty much an overpriced decor store (http://www.shoprelish.com/) whose customer base seems to be the people who purchase the incredibly expensive yet tiny high-rise condos in the part of Portland called the "Pearl District". The Pearl district used to have warehouses, some light industrial, and low-income housing but they bulldozed all that to build Yuppieland. It's a sunny but windy day here, and so my hair is not the tidiest after a 5 mile bike ride. I walk in there and the salesperson takes one look at me with the ugliest glare. I looked around to see if I had run over a kitten or something, but nope - no maimed kittens or puppies to be found. As she gets closer to me, her glare changes to the most simpering smile I've seen since the last time I visited Southern California and upon asking, points me in the direction of the baskets. I scurry away from her - this woman really scares me.
There are 2 points in its favor. This store only wants $45 USD for it, which seems to be the lowest price of all the sources I've seen on the internet. (No sales tax in Oregon, either.) Also, there's a really nice display for the basket, especially when you consider that this is not a bike shop. It was a tripod stand with a set of bike handlebars attached to the top. The basket is installed, so I could see exactly how it works. I wish I could have taken pictures to share here, but I was reluctant to take out my camera with that salesperson giving me the evil eye. There's a metal plate attached to the handlebars and at the top, there are these flat, metal "fingers" that come out of the top. As you can see in the picture below, there are 2 "slots" molded into the back of the basket. The basket has a carrying strap. You insert those fingers into the slots and that's how it's held.
http://www.shoprelish.com/Store/pc/catalog/I301742.jpg
I am skeptical of the fastening method. There is no additional latch or anything like that. I fear that the basket will go flying when you hit a pothole of any significance. There should be a latch on the bottom of the basket that secures it to the bottom of the metal plate. I'm also dubious about the basket itself. It's molded plastic, and the bottom is too flimsy. It's going to sag and bow if you put anything heavier than a moderately sized purse in it. Since my bike is my car, that's not particularly useful to me. If they reinforced the bottom with metal mesh and had the "skeleton" of the basket be metal instead of plastic, I think it would have been doable. (You can see the "skeleton" at the top of the basket at the base of the scallops.) Finally, I just don't like those scallops at the top. The basket was meant to evoke crochet lace stitches, and while they make the basket rather authentic-looking in that respect, it's just not practical for utility biking. Those scallops are going to catch onto things and break off. They also make it more difficult to use a bungee net to keep your things in the basket.
One other thing - the black and white look as they appear in internet photos, but that green basket is deceiving. It looks like a "sage green" on the internet, but is a brighter and deeper "kelly green" in Real Life. For women, this is an important distinction. :p ;)
So I can say without a doubt that I will not be buying this basket. It's not useful to me, in spite of how pretty I find it. That said, it might not be bad for others. If you weren't going to put more than a purse or eggs or other lightweight items, it would work if you figured out a way to really secure the basket at the bottom. It sure would look lovely on a cruiser or a mixte. For you guys, if you have a special female in your life who enjoys hobbies like needlework and appreciates a pretty bike, show this to her and see what she thinks. :)

I bought the Wald (http://waldsports.com/index.cfm/baskets.html) version of that basket and other than having to add a bit of rubber tape to the "stem" bracket to quiet the rattle on my 3/4 mile long potholed, graveled driveway, I am very happy with it. FWIW I bought the 933 model (http://www.waldsports.com/index.cfm/wald933meshbasket.html)

Donna,
A dozen eggs (in the carton) will fit neatly, centered in the bottom of the basket. I really, really like the mesh to keep the small stuff corralled FWIW I like the basket well enough that I will probably buy another one and couple of spare mounts for some other bikes I have. My main grocery getter has the Wald 582 (http://www.waldsports.com/index.cfm/wald582rearfoldingbasket.html) folding baskets on the rear and the 933 on the front. I have a set of low rider racks that I have to get installed then I can use the folding nylon grocery panniers. With this rig I can lug 4+ oversized brown bags of groceries plus some incidentals.:D
And before EH busts my chops I will try and get pictures of it up tomorrow...it is dark here now...

I think that's the one I put on a trike I put together a couple of months ago. It was nice and sturdy when installed, and the brackets were pretty good.
The small mesh is nice. Almost nothing will fall through. I can't put anything small in Bailey's bottom trike basket unless I use box or a bag or something. My riding glasses would fall through without being in the case. I have to use a nylon bag for tools, patches etc. Even the pump would fall through. A small camera would fall through.

I resent the calling of a noble Huffy a POS...
One of my favorite bikes is my old Huffy Mt. Storm.
My favorite because it was given to me by a good friend, it replaced the car I couldn't afford to repair, and it got me into riding again after too long away.
And it looks damn good with a milkcrate.

Trust me...this one is a POS. I have had several decent Huffys in the past (Baypoints and a crusier). They didn't complete the welds on this one, or even clean the weld splatter off prior to painting it:rolleyes: I thought it might be a isolated case? Nope I was in WM and looked at a few others and they were just as bad or worse. This apparently is the rock bottom of the line, and it shows. For another $20 they could buy a Schwinn that has clean welds and a better paint job.
