Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - NJS-certified stuff??

OneTinSloth mentioned the Nagasawa frames so I figured maybe we can discuss more of the keirin equipment. I don't know if it's the prohibitively high price, the exclusivity of owning something so specialized, or just the supposed bulletproof quality, but for some reason this stuff is just cool. I have toyed with the idea of building a fully NJS-compliant bike, and I'm sure I will when I have an extra four grand or so, but for now I guess we can just talk, post pictures, and drool. Right now the only NJS certified thing I own is my Nitto handlebars, I'm on the way though. :D

if i get a good chunk of my debt paid off over the winter i plan on putting myself back into debt by building up a NJS approved bike. there'll only be two parts on it that wont be approved, the chain and pedals. i have a habit of breaking chains, i can't afford to be buying high-dollar NJS approved chains all the time. and pedals, i dont know of any clipless pedals that sport NJS certification.

I read a bit ago that only 36 hole hubs are NJS approved anyone know the reasoning behind this? I like my lower spoke wheels.

that's incorrect. suzue makes a NJS certified version of their Pro-Max hub that comes in a 28, 32, and 36 hole drilling.

I found out where I saw that info, businesscycles. He states that the 36 hole one is stamped NJS but none of the others are becasue the NJS certification is only for 36 hole hubs.

that rule probably stems from tradition.....way back when there was probably a problem with hub failure on lower spoked hubs, or was thought to be an unfair advantage. i like the 36 hole rule though....track bikes should only use 36 holes in my opinion!

i get the feeling that many of the njs rules have more to do with equalizing the playing field for the gamblers (remember that keirin is a hugely popular betting sport in japan) than they do with tradition or safety. i dunno... sometimes keirin seems really cool and sometimes it looks totally sketchy. *shrug*

I have delt with them a few times via eBay...good folks from my dealings.

bens is roughly a mile and a half from my house. i've stopped in a few times and i've never seen a single piece of track-related equipment. i don't go there often, though, as i work at another shop.

From what I was told:
They recently found a distributor to handle these requests; now they are able to carry such pieces.
I really do not know what the shop is or what it has as I am in Chicago. I provided this as a resource.

the only rims i know for sure that are NJS certified are Araya Red tubulars. i don't think any clinchers are at all. that's the only impractical thing about putting together an all-NJS bike...
