Man that would be a bit scary to see, and a bit interesting at the same time.

Scary, We had a fire at my local trail a few years ago, burnt about a square mile of vegetation smack in the middle of the trail, its was nothing compared to the scale of this though :(

I second that feeling.

Sorry to see. BC had some of the biggest and longest running forest fires ever seen here this past summer. VEry sad to see.

The last pic of the helo. My brother-in-law flew one of those. He was working for an outfit that flew out of Cougar, WA, called Blue Bird Helocopters. Did fire season and some logging for them.

Awesome birds!

Cool pics too BTW!
Sorry for the cause. Fires SUCK!

san diego is on fire right now, 200 homes lost in san diego county alone, mission trails park, sycamore canyon trail and countless others are toast (literally) i woke up this morning and had piles of ash and soot on my porch. the fire is still raging out of control, endangering more homes, thousands of people have been evacuated, city will be shut down tomorrow school, peoples jobs, all city (except for the jobs related to disaster control) and government facilities closed, freeways shut down. its a terrible thing to lose everything :(

Fires aren't as devestating to wild life as people think. At least from the reports I have seen. Fires are such a natural part of life out there that wildlife is usually gone before it affects them too much. Although with urban sprawl I am sure that is becoming worse and worse as natural escape routes are ripped up. I feel for them as well..

Ya'll have our simpathy from Montana. We too have been in a > 4 year drought and have been burning year after year. Forrest fires, and now range fires driven by 70mph winds.

Hang in there and be careful of breathing. That ash can mess you up!

God bless.

Well from our place, this is what we saw Friday morning
http://www.descenders-on-dirt.com/1fridaySmoke.jpg

Knowing that that was a little to close to keep our daughter around, she and my wife went to my wife's sisters place.

I stayed around but unfortunatly they had the camera with them so I did not get any of my own photos of the fire but this is what I saw Monday morning from my neighbors porch

And finally, last night the fire crews were doing a little clean up of some of the dead trees and putting out a few spot fires.

Damn, that is a little too close for my comfort, if you need a place to live, the floor right by my one bike is open.

Thanks for the offer but our place was untouched. The fire made a horseshoe around us. It was intense for a while but all is good now.

It also uncovered some great single track that was covered up by the brush. Had a great ride yesterday and will be going out again tomorrow, possibly tonight.

G'day. I'm from down under originally Sydney. Now we've moved to Adelaide (more west than Sydney).

Anyway we used to get fires their all the time, especially where I lived. On one occasion school accross the road severley damaged people to left and behind us houses lost and our boundary fence burnt.

I wasn't there for the 2001 fires but they were so bad America sent fire crews over and all the houses within 10 of ours got destroyed, including our old one.
