Yesterday's Tour of Borrego was blessed with sunny skies, and started out "breezy". As we rode the 40 mile route, the wind continued to pick up. By the time we rode back into the Palm Desert Resort, the wind had become steady and very strong out of the north/northwest. For the masochists in the group I suppose the wind was OK, but as I was out there with my "fair weather" riding wife, the wind turned what would have been a pleasant ride into an ordeal. She rode as best she could in my draft, but I don't think a single rider sets up much of a draft.
The ride support was good with two well-stocked rest stops (thanks for the peanut butter sandwich, oranges and bananas), porta-potties and a well-marked route. We saw a lot of wildflowers on Borrego Canyon and Henderson and stopped to get a few pictures. The Julian apple pie, ala mode, was great, although I had some misgivings about filling myself up with pie and ice cream, as it probably was more that the number of calories burned during the ride.
