I'm new to dirt riding except for the simple flat stuff ...
My question is; How do you keep traction on the rear wheel in a steep climb?
I have a HT and it seems for me to climb, I need to be more forward then the bike likes and the rear wheel breaks loose. I tried to back up my center of gravity but then I can't climb?????????

Thanks in advance

Shift your weight back just a little, your too far forward.

Practice practice practice. You will have to work on finding the sweet spot which is a combination of proper body position and tire pressure to keep good traction on climbs.

You need to be forward enough to stop lifting the front tire but back enough to keep weight on the digging tire.

I read these tips in a magazine a bunch of years back and it really helped my technique.

One: Move to the tip of your saddle.

Two:Keep your back straight, not hunched over, and bend forward at the hips.

Three: Shift into the gear you think you'll need before the climb. Shifting mid-climb is tough on your drivetrain and kills your momentum.

Four: Keep your elbows tucked in, and pull the handlebar towards your hips.

Five: Pick your line and stick with it. You don't want to meander all over the trail.
