Seriously, I have no sense of seriousness in me what so ever...except for homework, which i'm behind in because i'm goofing off too much.
Any way, I got into road cycling during Hurricane Dennis. I was in a Hotel in Jacksonville with nothing to do but to watch badly scheduled TV. I know the TDF was up and that it would be Lance's last TDF, so I watched that. Almost exactly the year before, I almost ruined my ankles for the rest of my life by training on a treadmill. During the TDF, I realized that even though I could no longer Jog, i could get into cycling. So I got my first road bike ever. 45 dollars for a 1976 Motobacane. I dropped 300 into restoring her to find that the frame was too big for me. My stepfather got a bike for 10 dollars that he knew would fit me, so we traded. I've probably put about 300-500 into restoring that one (should have stripped the motobacane and saved money). Now, I'm hooked with downtube shifters and the idea of using MTB shifters to make bomb proof bikes, especially since I don't care about weight. Saving weight on a bicycle to me is only a good if you are racing. I'm not a racer, so I'm sticking with my 35 pound road bike (a fully built litespeed weighs less than me wheelset!)
Now, I'm starting to get into the long distance stuff. So far, I have two metrics under my belt, and I just got panniers so I can ride home for spring break. My goal is to at least qualify for Paris-Brest-Paris in 2011.
