Touring - new Rohloff model coming

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
get this: 580% gear range and almost 1 lb less than the standard 500/14! (will still have 14 gears) Never thought I'd get a 2nd Rohloff, but now I'm looking at the derailleur on my road bike like it's an endangered species :)

We were (Thorn Cycles) told by Rohloff that the new hubs were 'not designed for tandem or heavy duty use) . To me that says 'not for touring'.

Maybe there will be a price reduction on the original hubs now that they are old news. We can hope!

According to one of the comments in one of the links posted above, the design life of the new hub will be 50,000 km vs 100,000 km for the current model.
