Road Cycling - Training Question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was wondering how many of you listen to music while training indoors or on the road.
Also, what type of music do you listen to (if you do)?
Cheers

I never listen to music when on the bike. I think one really needs to be paying attention to one's surroundings when riding. Road or MTB. You really can't afford to take one of your senses away. Just my point of view.....Bob

Point taken. I saw a pretty long thread about the same topic, so I don't mean to repeat the whole debate about distraction while hammering at 30Mph in traffic. However, I do think that there are safe ways of listening to low volumes on quiet roads. Anyway, what about indoor training? Do you guys listen to or watch videos while training indoors?

Indoors you need to listen to or watch something. Indoor mag training is about the single most boring thing I've ever done. I'd rather attend an 8 hour insurance seminar than sit on a bike inside for 30 minutes.

I don't have an indoor trainer.. :( Sure wish I did. I'm not sure what I am going to do this winter. However, if I did, I think I'd be sure to have the TV or radio playing...

Yep! I like to listen to high energy music when training. ..whatever the training. My favorite right now is the sound track from MI-2.
I don't road ride with tunes, but have been known to have tunes cranking on a closed course, or in the dirt!

Check out this guy's playlists and HR charts. They are in the lower right part of the page, Heart Zones Cycling Classes. Just click on each work-out.

They are about an hour long and are probably more work than most do when riding twice as long.
Pedaling without paying attention to the intensity of the work probably means that your heartrate is not high enough to really get any benefit.

I strap my heart rate monitor on the trainer. I try to estimate what cadence I'm doing by sampling a second hand sweep vs my count.
I have a tv set in the basement, so I can watch baseball, football, stock market, news, South Park or (one of my favorites) THE MAN SHOW.

Riding with a headset on the roads of MA is illegal. Indoors, however, I mix all sorts of stuff for the Spinning classes I teach. Rock, techno, etc. Its all good.
