Touring - Hey DukeArcher

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just a quick thanks for the input to my Germany threads. I forgot about one, and just checked it, only to see the link to your Elbe video.
how much of the Elbe did you do, and where abouts - was it from Hamburg? Any places not to miss?

Hey mate, no problem with the input, in fact if I had more time I'd help out more!
Here's a place-by-place of how we followed the route along the Elbe

Setting off
Started in Hamburg at 9:00am and got out of the outskirts by 11:00, followed the river path along the north bank of the Elbe from Geesthact to Boizenburg. We then went through a National park to the North of the river before rejoining the river at Pommau. We wanted to stay in Hitzacker, but there was no ferry so we camped between Alter Haken and the river (first day around 150km).

First Camp
Next day we left early and had a huge breakfast at a bakery in lovely Domitz, before following the river closely (if I did it again, I would not hug the river so closely) all the way to Havelburg where we stayed for the night at a campground (urgh), and met the inebriated mayor.

The mayor and I
The third day was significantly more stressful, trying to make it 120km to Berlin center with only an auto driver's map and no real clue. Got absolutely lost on the ring roads surrounding Berlin and spent all afternoon getting through the outskirts of Berlin (through Spandau)

Finally!
Thanks for that. I know what you mean about getting lost. My friend and I had to get from Stuttgart centre to the airport which is about 10 miles. Everything was fine until we left the Neckar cyclepath. We thought we'd be able to make it using a road map and road signs. Boy were we wrong. It took us about two and a half hours to get within a mile or so of the airport, then about another hour to navigate the local roads. Now I love Germany, but I wouldn;t say road signage was their premier hand.
I love that inebriate mayor. Wow, I'd be frightened.

He was so drunk and hilarious (and naked in his second story window) when we first met him, that fear was out of the question.
Getting out of cities is always so hard!
Is only Duke Archer allowed to answer? ;)
