Recentley purchased a Giant ocr3 and after 800+ miles realize the Sora components are just ok....I would appreciate any comments on whether the ocr3 frame is worth upgrading to Shimano 105 or Ultegra......I am thinking in terms of using the basic upgrade kits that are available online......

While I don't ride an OCR3, I ride the Trek equivalent (1000). I’m personally going to save up and just buy a better frame, wheelset, fork, and groupset all together. I don't see much sense in upgrading to race level components on a rather clunky frame.

I have an OCR 3 and bought it for the frame, I liked the color, aero tubes, compact geometry, and the price. I plan to make it into a Tri and/or TT bike.

IMO it's better to save up and just buy a better bike. Manufacturers buy components for a lot less money than we can, so the cheapest way to get them is as part of a new bike.

And recent-model entry level road bikes tend not to appreciate in value due to upgrades. If you decide to sell the Giant, you'll get maximum return if you sell it as-is. And if you sell the Giant and apply the money to a new bike, you'll end up spending less than you would just upgrading the Giant.

Alternately, having two bikes is always a good thing.

You may want to do a little searching on the threads regarding upgrades. I have a 2002 OCR-3 that I've started collecting parts for an Ultegra upgrade (and switching to a double). There's some good stuff on carbon forks and other ideas.

Hope the link works to this thread. There's others you can find using the advanced search button.
