I see this question a lot; sorry for bringing it up again.

I need a new tube for my bike. Here's what's on the side of my tires: 700x38C, 28 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/2.

I believe the product at nashbar.com (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=97&subcategory=1116&brand=&sku=4855&storetype=&estoreid=), item number #NT-RLS might fit, but I was hoping someone could confirm that. I'm a little unsure because the tube size listed in the description at nashbar's site says 700 x 35 – 38c / 27x1 3/8 in. Will this be a good fit? I've read that the only thing that really needs to match is the diameter and the letter designation, but I could be terribly wrong.

Thanks,

joseph

I'm not sure what teh 28 x 1 5/8 is, but the 700x38c should be the tire size. And yes a 700 35-38c should fit fine. WHy not just go to your LBS, they will have them in stock for a few bucks. Tubes generaly will fit a range of sizes 700c is size of the tube circumference and the second number is the size of tires it will work with 35-38c.

I work 8:30-6:00 M-F. LBS works 10:00-5:30 M-S. I go to them for the big stuff, but it's more convenient and even faster for me to order little stuff online. Maybe the LBS can take my order over the phone and send it to me through the mail... I'll call and ask 'em.

Thanks for confirming that the tire size will work.

700c and 27" use the same diam inner tube, and the width sounds correct.
These days you have some additional choices to make.
Shraeder (wide, car style) or presta (narrow) valves.
Presta: threaded or unthreaded.
Long or short valve.
Threaded ones can be fastened to the rim, and are easier to pump up.
Long valves are designed for deep (V)section aero rims. They bend more easily in square-section rims.
