Simple question. The season is starting up here, and I'm looking to see what everybody brings. Anything special, or anything that comes in handy that your average cat 4 wouldn't think of bringing? Lets hear it.

Wow. You travel way more prepared than I do.
My bag consists of:
-team kit and whatever weather appropriate gear that might be needed
-towels (a big one for changing, and a couple small ones for wiping/cleaning up)
-big coleman drink dispenser filled with hot water (for rinsing off after the race, set it on top of my open rear hatch)
-dry clothes (enough to layer and cover all weather possibilities for the rest of the day)
-food/gels/drink (usually I bring an abundance of these items, as in enough to feed at least 3 people)
-a few tools
-spare tubes and spare set of wheels
-pump
-trainer/roller
The two things I need to start carrying more of are A)first aid materials, and B)tools. Should I have any sort of major mechanical problems I'll be SOL as I don't really know how to fix anything on the bike, I usually take it to the shop (I know the basics; adjusting derails, brakes, etc). I should probably work on that one.

Weekly Crit
For Me
-Food/Water
-Sunglasses, Shoes, Helmet, Vest, Jacket, Warmers, Gloves, Shoe Covers...etc (you get the idea)
-Towel
-First Aide Kit, box of Tegaderm
For the Bike
-Computer Headunit
-Race Plate
-Pump
-Multi Tool
Crit/RR/TT of more importance
Everything mentioned above plus
For Me
-Winter layers/clothing (for those freak snowstorms)
For the Bike
-Set of spare wheels
-Tool box
-Trainer
Race involving travel, Stage Race, etc
Everything mentioned above plus
For Me
-Additional set of standard clothing (jersey/bibs/socks)
-Skinsuit + Chrono Helmet
-2-3 extra bottles
-Upright coleman drink cooler
For the Bike
-Repair stand
-Box of extra parts for the bike(s)
- ... time trial bike
- whatever other wheels might be necessary
Overall, I'd say that thing that I place the most importance/emphasis on is having extra/appropriate clothing for whatever weather condition might arise...

I'll just make it short by saying lots.
Enough tools to tear down and rebuild if needed and if it is multiple races in a day I might even bring a spare bike just in case.
Enough clothes/weather gear and food for days not just a day.
Lots more usually.
Hell, sounds like I just need to remember to park next to Snuf.

Aside from the ususal stuff everyone already mentioned...
I'll add
Small cooler with beer of choice to share with teamates after a good race run.

Same stuff as above, but add in a cooler with a big bottle of chocolate milk for after the race.
I also keep a spare helmet and shoes in my trunk year-round...

You forgot to mention the Costco pallet of Oreos. :)

This covers it pretty good. I would leave the tubular at home as the glue won't have time to set anyway before the race. I have a chain and spare cleats in my tool kit in case I was to break one warming up (although I have never used them). Also, safety pins - I have seen a race organizer run out.

I usually ride to races, so I just have a small backpack with the sorts of things that usually go in a seat bag (tube, multitool, tyre levers, patch kit), an extra bottle of whatever I'm drinking (to sip on the way there and sip afterwards, race license, really small safety pins (to use instead of the ones that I'm given, thus reducing number flappage), phone, hand pump, race license, club membership card (never needed this for anything but shop discounts, but who knows?), something to nibble on afterwards, pen and paper for notes & numbers, and a little bit of cash. Sometimes I bring a spare tyre. If it's a TT and I'm running my disc, I'll also bring a valve adaptor and spare tub and tub tape.

I bring *everything*, many of each if I can.
In the summer I take out the 2x jackets, 1x thick LS jersey, 1x wind proof tights, 1x "roubaix" tights, 3x warm head gear, 1x booties, and 1x warm gloves.
For Bethel I bring all cold weather stuff and add a microwave, 1-2 meals worth of food in tupperware, silverware, ceramic bowl.
Clothing:
2-4+ SS jerseys
2-4+ LS jerseys
2-4+ shorts
1 knickers
1 knee warmers
1 arm warmers
1-3 vests
1 rain jacket
short finger gloves
1-3 caps
2-5 sets socks
2 helmets
Pre/Post race stuff:
Atomic Balm (heat rub)
towels
rubbing alcohol (to get Balm off)
various Olbas products (breathing stuff)
baby wipes (new, discovered it this year)
Consumables:
2-4 bottles water
jug of water
gels, enervit crack packs
soda or other energy drink stuff
Cooler with freeze packs and such to keep things cold
Bike/equipment:
1-2 bikes
spare set wheels
floor pump
whole tool box (40 lbs of tools and stuff)
various spares - cables, housing, chain, all in the tool box
I don't have long finger ventilated gloves anymore but I want to race in them again. When I race "hard" I want my finger tips protected if I fall, even in boiling hot summer crits.
A lot of times the extra gear comes in handy as teammates will forget things. Also, if I do two races, I prefer to change between them if they are not back to back.
Finally I carry some generic kits for kicks. Jersey, shorts, socks, gloves of different teams. I'll put them on when I do Gimbles or something (I bring the whole gear bag everywhere).

if you mean a bag that you take with you when you're traveling (as opposed to hopping on the bike and riding to the race), here you go.
oh, before i start, this would be for one race/event (not a stage race/race on sat & sun/etc).
bibs.
jersey.
socks.
knee warmers.
leg warmers.
arm warmers (roubaix)
arm warmers (lycra).
booties and/or shoe covers.
oakleys w/dark/clear/orange lenses.
gloves (short and long fingered).
socks.
helmet.
cycling cap.
baseball cap.
embrocation.
warm up oil.
Eau de toilette w/some rubbing alcohol and water mixed in.
hand towel.
towel.
soap.
wind vest.
rain vest.
extra safety-pins.
food of some kind (oatmeal to go bars/cliff/power/whatever).
i think that's it.
if i'm riding to the race, this is what i'll have in my bag (which i bring to store my extra clothing in while i'm racing).
helmet.
extra safety-pins.
food of some kind (oatmeal to go bars/cliff/power/whatever).

Dude, I don't even have that much stuff in my house!
I used to be on the opposite side - not enough money to buy booties. So I rode with really, really cold feet until a nice Veteran (what Masters used to be called) bought me some booties on a whim. I've been trying to give back.

btw my new wife and her mom pitched in to get me a very nice slot car set for Christmas 2007 :) I just need a house so I have enough room to set it up.
*edit* I loaned my second newest (essentially a 10 ride Specialized Decibel) helmet out at the last race - and I try to lend those who need it stuff I have. My floor pump and tools get borrowed virtually every race I go to.

Lawnchair and newspaper. Let's face it, a lot of races you spend more time in that seat than the other.

lol it all fits if I don't bring a second bike and the Bethel specific stuff (microwave). The missus can even sit in the nice clear passenger seat.
If I get lazy and the missus isn't going to the race then I throw a lot of stuff in the passenger seat.
My car is definitely a utilitarian use car except for the fact I store it during the winters. I've hauled tile with it, the inside is a wreck (bike grease everywhere in the back, gouges from fork ends, chainrings, etc), I have all sorts of little chips and stuff on the outside, and it has a lot of miles on it.

Heres what I'm taking to the USGP in Louisville this weekend. Though this is not entirely road specific, I generally take these items to a road race. I'd rather have more stuff than I need than wishing I brought it.

legs warmers (obviously I won't take this in the heat of summer)

caffine and sugar - coffee and gel
longer races - steak for breakfast, wine at lunch.
more water than you think you'll ever drink - this time of year, most pumps are shut off, and depending on how cheap the event sponsors are, you might have to pay for water.
who knew the things we loved the most had such supreme nutritional values?
