Would wheels like these BMX'rs work? My guess is rear dishing. I have 5 speeds on the rear of my folder. I did a search and didnt find a clear answer.

probably have to mess with the axle and spacers.

might have to even cold set your frame to get it to fit with 5 speed.

even then it may run rough and be difficult to get some gears

Those are designed for a single cog, so yes, you'd have to respace, and then your wheels will be out of centre. You could run 'em single speed. Someone also pointed out that the bike below, a Raleigh Vektar, had an SA 3 Speed in a mag wheel, but good luck finding one!

When you say "mag" wheels, are you really saying they are made from Magnesium? I think that's where they phrase comes from. But in reality aren't them molded plastic? How do the brake surfaces hold up?

I guess a no spokes wheel would have advantages on a daily commuter, but what are the downsides?

They're molded plastic, yes, but in the early days of BMX, they were called mags because similar looking wheels on motorcycles were made of magnesium. I don't know if the term still applies, but it stuck in my mind. The only real advantage I can think of is looking awesome, which is enough to make me want a set with a Sturmey Archer hub.

In the early days of BMX they did make cast alloy wheels.

A good name was Motomag.

Ive got a Lester back wheel. I think its the same company that made Triumph motorbike wheels, and aftermarket alloys for motorbikes

They certainly make for a much cleaner look.I also find it easier to manage when folded and putting it in the trunk of a car.Easier to grab a hold of it.With the single speed,if you find the right size "cog" it's not bad.You have to find a compromise, lose a little top end to gain some bottom end.I can get this AutoMini up to a pretty decent speed with these 80's TuffWheels II bmx wheels on it.They look cooler even though they are heavier than the original wheels that were on it.

Raleigh had several bikes that were in a similar design

I had 2 red Vektars at the same time. Sold them to a collector, with 2 RSWs as well.

I had a couple of Wildcats. These are the same frame as Vektar. But not so complex body work. Single speed too.
My first one Lucy. Called that cause when I built it quickly, it had all the spokes in the wire wheels were loose. It got stolen 3 times, wrecked the last time by getting thrown of the school roof.
I never used it with the body work on it.
Heres how it was for a while when I had it.

I found a pair of white Mag Lite rims( similair to the ones in Sammy boys pic) for my R20, and what to change color to black, I was wondering about the braking surface, will not the brake pad rubbing wear off the paint. What are my options.
