Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - How to change cartridge bearings on a Miche hub?

For some reason one of the cartridge bearings on my Miche primato trackhub has failed after only 3 months and I need to change it. The bike shop won't do it so I probably have to do it myself, but how do I do? So.. the bearing is like stuck in there and I don't wanna use to much force and damage the hub.

Also the axel is bent and it's impossible to get the "cone" and bolts of. Does someone know where to get that stuff? I've called several bikeshops here in Sweden and no one could help.

You could try germany. Bike-components.de is a good store. They have a lot of stuff for good prizes.

Seems like you need to change the axle as well. Might be the reson for the short life of the bearings. Youll need to unscrew the washers on one side to start with. and hit the axle with a hammer so youll nock the bearings out in the opposite side. Use the axle to do the same in the other side.
The new bearings are called 6001 if you want to go shopping for them.

Where did you buy the hub? If a sealed bearing failed and the axle bent within 3 months I would be pretty mad (assuming you haven't been doing anything stupid).

I once had to replace the bearings on my Miche hub.

First of all, you'll need to figure out a way to pull that axle out.
If it's bent, then I don't know, saw??!? and replace.

Next thing you need is a bearing puller.

It fits on the inner ring of the bearing.
Through the hub, on the other side, you stick a long thin screwdriver or rod of any sort and tap out the bearing gently. (cred. cavernmech)The bearing puller works by spreading apart. It is best to fix the hub on something so that it doesn't move. Placing it on top of an open vice padded with cloth worked for me.

Once you have the bearings out, 6001 type. (bring them to a bearing store, you can even get upgrades!)
To put the new bearings in you need to tap the new bearing in (outer edges) gently and evenly into the hub recess.
Make sure you put some grease in there too.

The one thing however is finding replacement cones and axles for the hub.
I still have not yet found any parts.

After I replaced my bearings I found out that the cones were damaged as well with flat spots.

I don't know what others experience with these hubs are but they should last more than 3 months of road biking, got it new of ebay. Can an uneven chainring bend an axel if the chaintension gets to high? Thats the only thing I could imagine would have done it on my bike.

Anyways, I appreciate all the help I got. I orderd the bearing puller and singlespeedshop.de says that the "Surly axel kit " whích includes cones and nuts will work with the Miche hub. We'll see in a few weeks. With all the money spent on tools, parts and international shipping I've could have bought 1 1/2 new hub!

If you're riding everyday or commuting in todays wintery weather. Expect the bearings to last not at all. Maybe as short as a month.

thanks for the tip! I need to change out the bearings ASAP after two winters.
as well as all the hardware. If you have any success in finding replacement cones and axles or substitutes I'd really appreciate the help :)
