Hey fellow zonies.. looking to see if anyone knows of any bike clubs in Southeast Chandler. Looking to get more rides in and wanted to see if there are any clubs out my way to ride with.

Nope, not that I've ever found.
There's a club in Sun Lakes (10 miles SE) and another out of West Chandler (10 miles away) and another out of Kiwanis Park (15 miles away) and you'll see all three of 'em out in our 'hood. Ain't no justice, huh?

I'm in the Chandler/Gilbert area. What kind of riding do you normally do? I mostly just hit up the canals and some of the roads with bike lanes. Consolidated Canal from Warner down to Hunt Highway, Eastern Canal from Warner to Guadelupe. Nothing too major, plus since there's still so much road construction in the Chandler/Gilbert area, there's a lot of just waiting for the roads and bike lanes to get finished, it seems like.

I usually ride from Lindsay and Hunt Highway out past Maricopa road on Riggs and back..around 30 to 50 miles. It would be nice to have some company on the long rides and maybe a little competition. I am still pretty new to road bikes but I like it, just did the 62.5 Tour De Cure in North Scottsdale.
Has anyone rode with the Sun Lakes group? Are they advanced, intermediate? I usually keep about a 15 to 18mph pace and when I feel froggy 20 to 22mph.

Ha! I usually ride out to your neighborhood. Santans are beauty!
SunLakes group has a number of elderly folk, your pace might be a bit much - but we know better than to generalize, might be a few of those guys who can work you over

Oh yeah, during the Tour de Cure there were plenty of guys much older than me that kicked my butt.

What a great link, I didn't even know that website existed and they have some really nice ride maps posted. I'll have to try some of those rides out, even if I don't do them in a group! In fact, I may have to do pretty much all my rides on my own anyway, I have a heavy bike and only do 12-13mph or so. Oh well!

The group especially on Sat. accommodates a range of riding speeds.

Lots of riders in your area. I live in Sun Groves. There are a couple of guys that I've ridden with many times that live off of Lindsay between Riggs and Hunt. Both are pretty brisk and do or have done some racing. There is a 70 year-old that lives in Santa Rita that can haul, as well. Don't laugh, he used to race in Europe (I've seen the pics and newspaper articles). He is Scottish and a great guy as well as a freak of nature. No one that age should go that fast!

Sorry, I almost forgot...
There is a group that leaves the Seville clubhouse (Clubhouse Drive off of Hunt Highway between Higley and Power) EARLY during the summer. They take off around 5 -5:30, if I remember correctly. They are pretty strong - lots of triathletes and club racers. I think the highest guy is a Cat 3, so fast but nothing too insane. I've only done this one a couple of times. I think the pace was 23-25 ish.

I'll E-mail Brian Staub. He organizes the Seville ride. Once I get a response, I'll let you know when they are going to get it rolling. I'm sure it will be soon, as it is getting light pretty early these days. Even when sunrise was at its earliest last June, I still needed to strap on the headlight and blinkie for the run up Riggs to meet the gang.
We should get together for a ride. Andy (the Scot) is always looking for people to ride with, as well.
I am pretty much the same pace that you describe. I just hang on with the Seville guys. The cool thing about it is that they don't mind. They are really good dudes.

Looks like the Seville rides will start in mid-May. I rode with one of the guys today. We went out to the SanTans. It was 50ish miles with over 1100 feet of climbing on rolling hills.
I'll let you know when the group gets rolling.

Cool thanks, I did the Ride for the Children today... 65 miles and man the climbing was definately there went about 30 miles of nothing but up hill from 1250 to 2550.. Finished in a little under 4 hours. A little slow but after having a week off with no exercise what so ever I am lucky I finished at all.

Hi dbaxtod.
This is Oldscot, thanks for the write-up. Rather nice of you to mention my old age prowess.
Found this web site quite by accident and could not believe it. Anyway, lets go ride again sometime soon.
Don't mind getting hammered by you young guys. Lets me know I'm alive!!
Andy.

Hey, imartin, old scot, and others...
The Seville guys are generally leaving Seville clubhouse at 5:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesdays are hard intervals and Thursdays are tempo rides.

Sorry I am a working stiff and have been riding my bike to work... I leave the house at 5:30am on those days and usually don't get home until after 6pm. I am still getting a good ride in, 40 miles round trip 3 to 4 days a week.
Thanks for the info through maybe a weekend ride would work sometime.
