Training & Nutrition - How long is enough?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just bought the CycleOps fluid 2 last week and wondered what is a reasonable time to spend on a workout. Right now, I'm spending 30 min every morning but don't know if I can really squeeze in more time before I leave for work.
I'd say that for maintaining fitness over the winter,
30 min. a day is better than not riding at all.
What I did was get up earlier so I could work in longer
workouts a couple of times a week. Rode longer weekend rides (outside when possible) to keep things
interesting.
One thing I'd recommend is the Sally Edwards/Reed
HRM book for indoor and outdoor cyclists. It has some very good trainer rides, some of them from 20 minutes up
to about 1.5 hours. It will also help you maximize the workout time you spend
on the trainer.

The rule of thumb that I have heard is 20 minutes is the minimum amount of time to have any kind of results. The more days of the week that you work out the better within reason, of course.
You might try warming up for say 10 minutes and then riding increasingly hard till you are about 25 minutes into the session and then ease off and cool down. The time suggestions are only tentative. Fool around and see if you can find something that works well for you.
Hmmmm, I do 30 minutes run on my treadmill then 30 minutes ride on my bike trainer - 2 times per week.
You guys make me feel like I am not doing enough, I guess its because:
I HATE TREADMILLS AND TRAINERS!!!!!

once I kick it into full trainer mode.. I try to do 30-60 minutes 3 times a week... I did 15 minutes the other night, and was bored out of my mind... but I find the more I gdo it.. the more I get used to doing it... I can go longer...
I usually warm up in an easy spin, and then increase up to the next gear once the song changes on the radio.. I do this until I run out of gears, and almost have to stand up to turn the pedals... then kick it back and spin quickly for a song... it can be tough... but I think it is more of a mental thing
