miche pistard wheels.

so i've been looking at new wheels. i was gonna go custom built but i can't really drop much money for a while. anyway, has anyone used/have any experience with these wheels? i found a pretty good deal on them. they would primarily be my racing wheels(hence me posting here rather than ss/fg).

It basically looks like a lower spoke count Primato hub (which it is) some overweight, overflexy SS "bladed" spokes and some heavy aluminum rim comparable to a Velocity Pro Elite.

the lack of words about these through searching is troublesome. but i guess it's an indicator of their overall blah-ness.

if i had to take a stab at it, i'd say they'd be in the same ball park as the mavic ellipse wheels. the hubs are both decent spinning hubs, but have weird little quirky problems. the primato hubs tend to be noisy for no apparent reason (everyone i've talked to who also owns them says the same thing about theirs), but i'm pretty sure they've upgraded to 15mm stainless steel axles since i got mine, so i think that's all you've got to worry about along those lines. otherwise i'd lean toward what crimson is getting at. rims are probably the same as the velocity fusions or so.

i'd be willing to look a little further into them, but i bet you'd be better served building something up to a pair of open pros.


however, the miche supertype pista wheels look soooo raaaad...

yeah. they're not my first choice and i've been checking out the ellipses a lot on the track. i've always liked those. but my stock rush hour wheels are killing me. ideally i wanted to get some dura-aces laced to open pros but that's gonna be money. but probably more rewarding waiting for those then getting some so-so wheels now that i'm gonna be pissed at.

They look hot, but I think you'd be better off with a set of Reynolds DV Track. And about $500 richer.

A friend of mine has just bought a pair.
They're not bladed spokes, they're round stainless spokes built with a good tension.
Overall, they're not a bad pair of wheels, and certainly hard to beat for the money.

I was going to recommend that Dura Ace/Open Pro combo wheel from bicyclewheels.com, but they don't appear to offer than anymore. Seriously though, you can do better for $300 than these.

I've got a set on the way. They're going to be my race wheels (this year at least), the price is nice. I should have some sort of input in a week or so.

Got mine in and glued em up yesterday. The fit and finish isn't Campagnolo by any means, but is nice enough for the price. I'll be racing them at Dick Lane next Wednesday, report to follow.

Raced them tonight, they are fine. Nice and stiff, no weird noises or anything. They weigh a ton but so dose my 20 year old Rossin. If your deal is good I say go for it.

If you want them for track racing get a tubular wheels, probably crane creek volos tubulars??

If you want them for the street, get them. Somepeople said they were flexy? well in the street who cares? it will help you with the bumps and stuff anyways. They look hot!... the bling is important in the street. In racers who cares about the bling, after all the bling wont help you to win the race anyways. Campagnolo Legs maybe does.

We are talking about track racing, my Pistards are tubular. Somebody speculated that they were flexy, they are not.
