Hello everyone, my name is April and I live in Portland, Oregon. Matter of fact, I live with one of the moderators, which is how I heard of this site.
I've ridden bikes off and on my whole life (I'm 28) but only started riding more seriously a couple of years ago, when I realized how much shorter it made my commute, compared to riding public transit the whole way.
I haven't owned a car in seven years, so riding a bike gives me a huge sense of freedom--no more being so dependent on the bus schedules!
It is admittedly very easy to ride your bike everywhere in Portland--even compared to the suburbs of Portland. I ride to work, to school (I'm a prenursing student), to my friends' houses, to go grocery shopping...
My current ride is the one I started commuting on--a '61 lady's Raleigh. It's an old black three-speed and it weighs a ton, but with my basket on the front I feel like I can do almost anything. I also recently (as in last weekend) acquired a late 70s/early 80's mixte by Carabelo--made by the same company as the Windsor. It's not rideable yet (bad tires, gear issues) but I'm really excited about fixing it up. I'll probably do all sorts of things to it eventually. :^)
I prefer to ride in "normal" clothes--I love the website copenhagengirlsonbikes.blogspot.com and find it inspiring!
Cyclocross has recently become a fascination of mine. I have no idea if that'll go anywhere....but it sure looks like fun.
