Hello folks,

First time here. What a great website, Thank you for putting this forum together.

I have a question. After my Trek 8000 been stolen few years back and not wanted nothing to do with riding since then. I just now got a full suspension mountain bike. The bike came with front disc brake only. My understanding is that I need to replace the rear Hub if I want to install rear disk brake. The frame also came with rear brake adapter so I know for sure I can add it but the question is which one to choose?

I did a little research online and they are so many of them. I would like to get your opinion.

Hubs: http://www.jensonusa.com/store/sub.aspx?id=140

Disc Brake: http://www.jensonusa.com/store/sub.aspx?id=113

I don't think I need hydraulic brakes since I don't do extreme stuff, just trails.

Which one of each would you recommend?? :(

Thanks!

What bike DO you have now? Chances are that if it came with a front disc, you may already have the read disc hub. Are there 6 empty bolt holes on the left (non-drive) side of the hub? If so, it's a disc hub.

Also, it's almost cheaper to buy a whole new wheelset complete than to buy the hubs and get them relaced to your existing rims. You'd need new spokes due to the different length, and by the time you're done, you could've bought the complete wheelset.

BTW, where do you ride in S.FL? H.Star lives down there and a few others as well. I'm over on the west coast in Sarasota. If you ever make it up this way, let me know and we'll hook up for a ride.

Yea, its generally cheaper to buy a disc wheel set rather than hubs and rims alone. Bt Jenson offers pretty good deals on wheelsets, try to get something with XT level hubs and not Deore, because its sorta on the low end and not quite as durable.

Thank you for your reply. I live in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I now I have a 2004 Mongoose full suspension bike which I'm very happy with. I have to check and see if the rear hub have the empty bolt. Do you know where can I find a complete rear wheel?? online maybe.

I ride at Oleta's Park, since I only live 30 min. from there. Thanks for your offer but if you are ever down this way? I'll take you for a ride too!
