Was going to do with the Deep V's but it seems like everyone and their mothers have them so I want to try something different. Anyone riding these rims? I'm thinking about having a wheelset buit up on these rims. Solid rims? Any pics? Might have these laced up to Phil's.
omg, you said it youself everybody's got them.so why start a new thread and not use the search?

I haven't seen them built up as track wheels but there's no reason not to do it since they have a 32 hole version. I've ridden the 1.1s but not the 1.2s. From what I've read they are very sturdy and well built at a slightly lower price than the Mavics. I think they'd make a sweet build. go for it. :)

I have 2 wheelsets with DT rims...both 1.1 and 1.2. They are IMHO the best rims you can buy....V's are not even in the same league.
oh i'm sorry, i thought he meant dt swiss spokes with deep v's. shame on me.

Notice any difference other than single eyelet vs. double?

Thanks man. I wonder how sturdy it would be with less than 32 since I weight 200 lbs.

Where did you get these built up? I can't seem to find a place that offers a full wheelset with these rims.

1.2s are amazingly nice rims. I'm going to lace a set to my Superbe Pro track hubs and CX-Xray spokes here in the next couple of months.
And I don't believe there are any wheelsets that come with 1.2s. You have to have a custom build with them.

Do you know who custom builds them? Or would it be better to just by the rims, hubs and spokes and let a local shop do it?
I'm having a set of 28 hole 1.2s built to dura ace low flanges right now. I shopped around for any online builders that sold them along with a decent set of hubs but couldn't find any for a good price. I bought the rims and hubs separately and they're being built locally. I weigh 165 so we'll see how they hold up.

I actually found a place online that custom builds them. $500 for the set with Wood hubs.

Yeah the animation is really annoying but they have a excellent choice of rims and hubs. I have no clue if they're reliable though.

i'm thinking of using the CX-Rays for my next wheel build. the cheapest i've found them is at universal cycles for $3.10 a spoke. did you find them cheaper?

A friend of mine at the shop/co-op I work at built some of these up for his road bike. He got them truer than any wheel I've ever seen in my life. Absolutely no hops, no wobbles, within clearances of significantly less than a mm. That says a lot about his skill as a wheelbuilder, but also about the quality of these rims.
They've stayed true, too, even though he rides them really hard.

Wheel builders I have spoken with say they are truly the easiest wheels ever to build. DT has very high tolerances.

I am someone of somewhat generous proportions as well...220. I have been riding them exclusively for almost 2 years on the 2 bikes I ride most. They have never needed truing since I built them. 32 DT Comp 3 cross brass on the rear and 32 DT Rev 3 cross alloy up front. I have been building wheels for over 20 years and really appreciate the high tolerances and quality control. The only currently manufactured rim that is always perfectly straight and round from the factory. The rim all other clinchers are measured against.

i'm 230lbs. all my wheelsets are 32 spoke and they are good enough. i ride strong rims like velocity. the dt swiss are just as strong. i think they may be just as heavy, too.

The 1.1's are advertised at 415gms. Thats not heavy and they stand up to the abuse I throw at them. I have a pair of 1.2's on standby for my next build. They are admittedly in the deep V weight range but they use a far superior grade of aluminum. Until someone better comes along or Mavic improves on their quality control I won't ride anything alse. The other good wheelbuilder I work with doesn't like Velocity product either. To each their own I suppose.

These rims come machines for brake rims correct?
Also how do I calculate the length of the spokes I need? I'm going to use Phil Wood high flange track hubs with these rims. The spokes will be DT Swiss Revolution.

Use the DT spoke calculator on their site. The pertinent hub dimensions should be on Phil's site.

Where are you getting your data on this?
Yes, machined. Google 'spoke calculator'. There's some that have a database of the measurements of rims/hubs. Or take the hub/rim to your LBS when you buy your spokes. They'll be able to look it up, or just measure it for you (don't bother with REI or Performance, they won't know.) Even if you don't buy the spokes there, this is something you can have them do for free for you. I recommend you build em and have a shop bring the spokes to proper tension. That way you won't need a tensiometer or truing stand. Plus they'll look over your lacing job and make sure you're good to go.

Where are you getting your data on this?
Personal experience. The 25 or so deep V rims I have built had really soft aluminum. Nipples galling in the spoke holes at high tension. Fast break wear. For a deep section rim they are not particularly rigid laterally and even low tension spoke corrections have an effect...altho this could just be the rim design and not the materials. I have pinged my DT rims off my roller rails a whole bunch of times and got nothing more than minor scratches to the anodising.
I am a DT Fanboy. I think their products are absolutely top notch.

THREAD REVIVAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I did a lot of perusing around the forum looking for info on these rims. There doesnt seem to be a single bad comment about them. They come off as one of the greatest rims you can get for under 300 as a wheelset. I'm looking to get some but wanted to double check that this isn't a false conclusion. Also that this is all still relevant seeing as how there is almost a 2 year gap inbetween the last post and mine. If they are these amazing rims I think they are, then why aren't more people on them? Cause they don't come in spunky colors or have the velocity name on them???
Summary: Are these rims what they seem to be? Should I just buy them?

I had a set built 20H 1.2s with CXRayspokes, and Hi flange PW hubs. The only thing I would do different is to go with lo flange hubs. Otherwise I am very happy with the wheels. Go buy them s.h.i.t.s.
BWW have the DT Swiss RR1.2s. BUT they are laced to Formula hubs. BUT it's $240

EDIT: Damnit! Didn't realize it was a revival. But go buy them anyway :P

I did make a new thread later cause I figured noone would keep the revival going. So thanks for the responses. I ended up ordering these with the Formulas laced with DT champion 2.0s last night from BWW. $289 I believe after "upgrades" to black rims, better spokes and then shipping. Which I think is a damn good deal. I'm excited to ride them. They'll be my first nice wheelset. Still on my Alex R500 or 400's or something. Heavy and just eh, though they stayed tru for like 2 years and counting, can't complain about that.

didn't want to get the 2.0/1.8 comp. spokes, for $25?
yeah... the no name straight gauge to dt straight gauge wasn't required IMO... but if you actually moved up to double butted comp spokes, then it would have actually meant something.

i know its a revival but i just wanted to throw my support up. Excel Sports had the rims on sale and both the front and rear hub i wanted so i just had them build the set:
rear white ind hub
front campagnolo record
competition 32 3x on both

edit:
for future searching sake, dt swiss renamed this rim the RR585 for 2010. according to excel it is an identical rim with a new decal
