The article says he doused himself with gasoline. I assume that he also dosed himself with alcohol.
He is lucky to have survived.
Don't know that I'd use the same epithet that sinsta does to describe him. A grade school teacher told me once about a student who approached her desk:
"Mrs. W," the girl said, "Molly called me a bad name."
"What did she call you?" Mrs. W. asked.
"I can't say it. My mother doesn't let me use that language."
"Well if you don't tell me what she said, I won't know what consequences to give her. Can you tell me what letter it started with?"
"Yes. She called me the E-word?"
"The E-word? I don't know what that is. Can you whisper it to me?"
The girl moved close to Mrs. W's ear and said very softly, "Molly called me an idiot."
