Touring - Big Bend Tour

I just finished doing a tour around Big Bend National Park. This was primarily on the primitive dirt road called the Old Ore Rd, a twenty-six mile barely maintained rock, gravel, and sand historic route widing its way north from Rio Grande Village. From the northern end, I travelled down the paved main park road back to the starting point.

This was a great ride and was quite a challenge. Riding in Big Bend is a fantastic experience and well worth the travel time to get to the park.

Great Photos. I went there as a kid in Boy Scouts for a 50 mile hiking/rafting trip. It is just as beautiful today in your photos as I remember it from my youth. Thanks for sharing. :)

I used a Canon 2 MegaPixel digital camera and supplied panoramic stitching software to do the panoramas. No tripod was used. Canon cameras do have a built in utility to assist in lining up multiple shots for panoramas. It's almost a no-brainer.

my camera is a kodak 1 MP camera, it does have this mode to lock the exposure so i can do uniform panoramic photos, but i need a tripod because its really difficult to keep my pictures straight

Nice photos, supcom..... as a matter of fact, I'm planning a similar short 2-day tour of Joshua Tree Nat'l Park sometime within the next couple of weeks, or as soon as all the smoke clears from the current wildfires. I'll be pulling a BOB as well. Only thing at JT is that you can only camp at designated campgrounds, even if you're travelling by bike. Anyway, I'll be posting photos as well.

I have a Canon Powershot G3 with the supplied panoramic software. I think you should try the following demo:

Because it is soo much better than the software that Canon provides. I did a side by side comparison using a panorama I did from Polychrome Glacier in Denali Nat. Park and the difference between the two is night and day. I could see your Panoramas and thought that you used the same program. The seams are slightly visible and IMO, panorama factory does a much better job. It's a bit slower but the results are worth it.

Beautiful pictures BTW, once you do one panaorama, it's addicting, I've do them alot now and have collected a bunch, including my room, Mt Marcy in the ADKs, and a bunch of mountain summits in the Berkshires to the Catskills to local hikes...

Man you are absolutely killing me! What memories you stirred up. My wife and I went there in 1988 on our honeymoon. We camped at Ernst tinaja. No cycling though, we were backpackers. Spent 9 days in the park, hiked all over including up in the Chisos. If you ever want the best campsite in the world, hike the rim trail and request campsite NE4. It is unbelievable. Just be sure to take water, it's a dry site.
The sad thing is that I would never get my wife on a trip like that now. She's a different girl, gone soft on me.
