It was fairly uneventful for me as well.... a 9:50 total time.

Dude, 9:50 is way eventful! There are many riders who take years to break the 10 hour barrier and you did it on you second double! That rocks! Congratulations man:beer:

sub 10 hours - that beyond reality.
If I am not wrong, the pro in the tour of california were avg 22 mile per hour and did only 110miles; you 'want' to do better than 20 mph in 200miles

Did! 20.3 mph to be exact. Well for 195.6 miles that is. Total time 9:59/Ride time 9:38

RESULTS are posted (http://www.planetultra.com/solvang/Results/2008results.htm)

Very Well done in did: 20.3 - this is for me simply unreal.
So, did you try drifting Keith? He probably will have an excuse not to finish top 5 :-)

Yes I stayed with Keith a mile from the "first" stop, mile 85 for us. We took a little detour through Santa Maria:( At that stop I filled my bottles and Keith and Company were gone. So it was solo going for me as most were not at my pace. I did catch up to my club mates in Guadalupe and rode with them till Los Alamos where I skipped the last stop and powered up Drum for a strong finish.

Yeah, he'll be using that one all year! (Right Mr. Lurker, Keith? :) )

Awesome times and finishes all around. I heard a couple more first-hand results on today's ride, and it sounds like a beautiful, and fast, course.

Keith, if you're lurking, I think you're a hard ass for taking on a double with a broken clavicle, even if others will tease. Just keep people thinking that you're injured and when you do get back on top of your game, you'll get the last laugh. :D

fyi, his time this year was 1 min better than last year. So he hasn't lost a step. ;)

Oh, I'm sure. I just like to root for him. He's always been so nice and supportive with me (little weeble-wobble rider that I am) and, of course, his DW is the coolest. I always like to read his ride reports and I hope he'll either post one or send it to Big John to post.

Hint, hint...Keith. :D

A friend of mine lost his Powertap computer head on that blasted Drumm Canyon descent, and he even double-backed up the hill to look for it, the nut. With no luck, however. If anybody here happened to pick it up, I'm sure the owner would greatly appreciate a reunion with his newly purchased and all-too-promptly lost toy. Please PM me.

Last weekend was my sixth consecutive Solvang Spring DC, and my third consecutive year finishing it on a fixed gear. But definitely my slowest finish yet. To the hundreds of you who probably passed me, I was the one with the uncontrollable coughing fits all day.

I remember seeing someone on a large red bike (60 - 64 cm?) that was a fixie, but don't remember anything about the coughing fits . . . so maybe that wasn't you.

If that was you, I was at lunch when you rode in. No, sorry, didn't pick up any PowerTap bits on Drum. I was too busy trying to miss the potholes and cracks in the pavement. I did have the benefit of following a Santiago Rider who seemed to know best descent path quite well!

The guy on the red Soma I would hasten to guess as Ken, a guy I know and have ridden with from the Almaden gang. Solid motor, that guy. Someone else asked if I was the guy on the green San Jose... negative. I did have a brief on-road chat with him and discovered he was pedaling 65 gear inches, and he was still smokin' me and my 72 gear ins on the flats and descents. His very amiable riding buddy was equally impressive, prosthetic legs spinning smooth as butter.

I was on a blue '78 Argos (gold rims), riding alongside my GF on the black Pista.

Anyone notice a great looking pie an ice cream place during the ride? If memory serves me correctly it was after Morro Bay. We were riding is a narrow shaded canyon with a slight uphill grade as we past it. Would have been on the left. There wasn't much other development at that point.

I would like to check this place out some day.

Sorry Maven,

Don't remember anything of the kind. After getting "the sticker" we entered a Park, then out on some highway where there were hundreds of motorized scooters going the other direction (Scooter Club of America gathering?), then more non-commercial real estate before rolling into S.L.O. for lunch.

Unless . . . maybe it was right after the sticker stop.

Anyone have a copy of their route slip still?

After Los Osos Valley Rd did we cross the 101 for a bit or turn south before the 101?

While on Los Osos Valley Rd. you crossed over 101 and then turned right (south) on Higuera St. Higuera St. goes under 101 and you turned right onto Ontario Rd. Then right onto San luis Bay Dr., left onto Avila Beach Dr., right onto Shell Beach Rd. into Pismo Beach.

I was born and raised over there and I still have a route slip.

Mmm that's exactly the way I remember it. Is there anyway you could easily post the route slip? Will Debbie kill you for posting her route slip?

KILL is a bit of an overstatement...
However, Planet Ultra route sheets are proprietary - and our rules specifically state that route sheets are provided for the personal use of riders while participating in an event; and may not be reproduced for any purpose; particularly for posting on a public forum.
That said, we sincerely hope NOT to see any of our route sheets posted here. The consequences will be what they will be...

Wow spoken like a true lawyer. Kill was an obvious overstatement.

Care to weigh in on the pie question then?

What I posted you is a protion of the route slip from the ride I've been putting on for 16 years, which happens to follow the same route Solvang follows in that area.

Well I guess that clears you from "the consequences will be what they will be..." ;)
