Seems like a lot of extra work...and maybe kind of painful...not real sure where he took it.

What part did you find confusing?;)

4 shots in the earlobe seems an unnecessary pain to me...YMMV.
Or perhaps, 3 shots into the jaw, before the fatal 4th shot....I mean, how many non lethal shots were fired first? Why not just make a big bomb and set it off in your lap? Would be a lot more sure thing and only one bang.

those walker robots are no good--
just wait until they link one of those
with a cyber brain and train it to police us--

I saw a real article recently on how DARPA
or some other creepy agency trained a rat brain
that was isolated in vitro to pilot a bomb--
all of this stuff will be combined in the future
to have real hunter killer robots run by organic
intelligence.

That was totally cheesey, which means it rocked, in rat brain talk.

My problem is that he rigged a device to shoot .22 caliber bullets! (presumably .22 LR) Too much potential for failure, resulting in a lot of pain. I would have rigged a device that shot .50 Action Express.

.50 AE far left, then .44 magnum. A .22 LR is on far right.

When it comes to robots, "coolest" can go to "creepiest" pretty damn quickly. Just ask poor Mr. Kinney (possibly NSFW). (http://youtube.com/watch?v=o0kWgcIlWn0)

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,339213,00.htmlBoy, kids these days, I tell ya. In my day, we put the gun in our own mouth (weren't no .22 either) and pulled the trigger ourselves!

Big Dog is quite amazing. From everything I've read, realistic, reliable climbing and balancing over uneven terrain has been one of the biggest hurdles in robotics. Asimo moves like **** in comparison. I heard Honda had to spend a ton of time and money to get the bugger to climb a flight of stairs, and even then he would fall flat on his face during demos every so often. Not knocking Honda, though, they're good as corporations go.

Yes but there is a tremendous difference in a humanoid robot like ASIMO and a quadruped robot like Big Dog.

They are also designed for very different purposes. The Big Dog was designed to be able to go over very demanding terrain and transport things for military purposes. ASIMO on the other hand is designed to be more human and interactive. It can identify faces and sounds, turn when it hears something crash or fall and even greet people.

Both are still absolutely amazing in what they can do.
