Best Route from Downtown L.A. to Santa Monica Pier

I want to do a midnight ride from La Habra/ Fullerton to the Santa Monica Pier. I have ridden to downtown many times, but i'm unfamiliar with the west side. What's the best route from downtown to the Santa Monica pier?

Venice all the way across town, past Lincoln, make a right on Abbot Kinney, veer right on to Main Street, take that little left at Pico, right again on Ocean, and take that to the Pier.

PC's routing is solid.

As a possible modification, you can stay on Venice all the way to the beach bikepath, hang a right, and use that to get to the pier, if you prefer to avoid the midnight drunk-tards on Abbott Kinney and Main Street to the sand and drunks on the path. Not necessarily a better route; just a different one.

For other options, you might want to check in with lafixed and/or midnight ridazz to get info from others who ride the city streets at that hour. There are some organized night rides posted there, to/fro Venice/Downtown L.A., that might be of interest or info to you.
