Deer season is upon us again and it just amazes me that our wives do not show more appreciation for what we hunters do to provide for our families.
Not only do we drive for hours after work on friday to go to a dismal camp in the middle of nowhere, but we sit in a tree during the coldest time of the day to sit and wait for the deer.
We don't get much chance for decent meals since the cook is back home taking care of the kids. Getting some action is out of the question with a tent full of drunks who do not take their hunting as seriously as I do.
But most of all you need to know the greatest sacrifice.
The lease on my hunting land this year was 1000.00.
I had to buy the new hunting rifle with scope for another 900.00.
The camoflage suit was 150.00.
Hunting magazines for the rifle were about 50.00.
Ammunition comes to around 200.00. ( OK I could use more target practice.)
The 4 wheeler this year cost around 6500.00.
Little debbies, sardines, saltines and bee... err bottled water came to 350.00.
The climbing stand to replace the faulty one I fell out of last year was 500.00.
Now if you calculate what I have had to put into this venture just to provide freshly taken food for you and the kids it comes up to about 9650.00. Honey, the average season will allow me to take enough deer to get about 60lbs of meat. That means that I am providing you and our precious kids with meat that costs around 160 dollars per pound!
Lobster only costs about 25.00 a pound. So while I am out there freezing my @$$ off trying to provide the most expensive meat on the planet for you and the kids please show a little gratitude instead of constantly complaining about it.
