I recently purchased a set of Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels with a campy hub. It was a great deal on a new set of wheels and I was told I could change out the hub easily... Got a different answer from a bike store in Aspen.

Whats the scoop? Can I swap it out, or is there other ways of using this on my 105 set-up. I even thought I could buy a campy cassette, but was told that they where too different.

Do I have to throw these beauties on e-bay or can I use them?

Thanks

I belive American Classic makes a cassette for your problem (however it may be reverse), check out www.amclassic.com and see

Dont sell them just yet. All the mavic hubs are swappable for the freehub body. Tell the bike shop you trust to order you a shimano freehub body for the ksyrium elite rear wheel. This part is probably going to run you about 45 to 50 dollars but that is cheaper than the wheels. It is fairly easy to put on so the mechanic at the shop should be able to help you out. Then, someday when you realize that shimano is crap compared to campy you can have the shop switch the freehub bodies back.

I read some of the other postings on the subject and have bought a campy casette and the Wheel Manufactuer shift-7 spacer kit. Seems I can make the campy cassette into a shimano compatible unit and will use the wheels.

I needed another cassette for the new wheels anyway.

I'll let you know how it goes once I have it put together.

The American Classic cassette is 10 speed Campy to fit on Shimano wheels. I got a long explanation about how Campy uses different spacing, etc. in their hubs in an email from someone at Chris King. I had emailed about campy compatable hubs and they made it sound like it's tougher than just using spacers. Of course, they're engineers and may not look for the obvious.

Maybe look at trying Campy stuff for a while? I'm not partial, but I try to give people any excuse possible to get new stuff.

The Wheels Mfg. kit plus a Campy cassette will cost a lot less than the American Classic cassette will. I am doing the reverse to build up a Spinergy Xaero-X rear wheel to fit my Campy 8 speed. The Campy version of the wheel will only accept a Campy 9 or 10 speed cassette, due to a different spline pattern. The Shimano version plus a Shimano 8 speed cassette and the Wheels Mfg. kit will do the trick nicely. My LBS wanted to sell me a Mavic cassette, which comes with several sets of spacers and 12 cogs, so you can build what you want to work with any drivetrain, but it retails for $120. My solution is much cheaper.

Ksyrium wheels are sold in two versions, ED-10 is for Campagnolo Cassettes and M-10 is for Shimano or Mavic Cassettes. I think that a competent and honest bike shop should be able to get you the replacement parts to change from M-10 to ED-10.
