Foo - Should Jon sell his mountain bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Thought I'd like to encourage him one way or the other. I really don't want him to sell it. We've had some fun times riding together.

I thought that mountain bikes were the standard issue to missionaries? At least in my neck of the woods.

I mean full suspension. I've seen Missionaries mainly on hardtails (front suspension, rigid rear).
He says he wants to get rid of it because it's weird. I think he should keep it because it's weird. Goes with the rider.

That's a different story! Yes, standard issue seems to be a hardtail.
I agree with x--he should keep it, but paint it pink.

Around here they love to ride on the sidewalks with no front lights. Drives me crazy. I've been thinking about writing the LDS Church and encouraging them to give better bike safety courses and front lights.
There's no point having a full suspension and not actually going down real trails. I thrash the hard tail every ride like I want it to submit to my ultimate authority.

It'd be nice.
I know a couple of years ago one of the young men was killed not more than a few hundred yards from my house because he apparently failed to look at the traffic, and cycled in front of a car :( .
Bike safety courses would be good. Actually, I'm surprised the LDS church doesn't offer classes as a matter of course for any of the youngsters.

Don't sell it. You'll regret not having an MTB _and_ a road bike.

As long as it's not his Trek 950, he should keep it.
BTW, who convinced him that he didn't need his bars up that high? I tried for a while without success.
he should sell the, but take the seat off and burn it. somethings are not meant to be passed on.

You don't even know what a real trail is.
Should Jon sell his mountain bike?
Yes, Pheard is not cool enough for a mountain bike.

I didn't read this thread before I had a thought this morning. Interesting coincidence.
I knew someone when I was stationed in Okinawa that bought a bike for $1,500 and part of his reasoning was to have a good bike for when he went on Mission.
$1,500 isn't excessive for a bike today, but it bought a great bike in 1980.
You don't even know what a real trail is.
It's not an open sewer in the suburbs. Sorry, Jon.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen anyone locally who has anything that upscale  .

Post up some pics of your "real" trails.

Keep it. As soon as you get rid of it, you'll get that itch. And once you get rid of the crabs, you might want to ride on a trail again.

When I say "REAL" trails I mean the ones that aren't concrete in the suburbs. Anyway, I couldn't find pictures online, so here's a review from mtbr. 4.4/5 doesn't seem so bad.

That creek full of **** wasn't paved, for what it's worth.
Oh you're right. Suburban sewer technicals are for badasses only.

He should sell it and get some lugged steel.
Seriously--this is the only way I could ever honestly
answer if it was up to my tastes. Or at least some
tigged 6-5-3. Maybe an internal hub. Leather saddle.

I'm confused where you got the idea I've only ridden the bike on a paved road. I ride that on a mtb because that is all technically siu can do, she can't do trails or inclines. I've ridden plenty of trails in the short life of that mtb.
Yes. Sell it. To me.

This is a good support post. I today decided to sell my mountain bike to offset recent expenses, including new sound system resulting from trip to car sterero store after Beast Buy botched an alarm install.
I can always buy another mtn bike. I don't want to put current expenses on credit card.

EXCUSE ME JON, I think you need to take that back. I can't do hard climbs because of my asthma and you know that. And yes, my bike has seen some singletrack. I didn't stop to take pics on the technical parts because I was riding them. This is in Tahoe on the rigid hardtail, the "Evil Giant". And if you don't believe me, that on the handle bars is the Bike Forums Women's Bow - the same one on the Moots in my profile.

There wasn't an option to have Jon give his bike to some kid who would ride it in its natural habitat (Hint: mountainbike).

Jon should learn how to ride down stairs before he sells it.
About all the pics I can find from my facebook. I have more somewhere, I've posted all these around in the first few months of riding the bike.
