So far i have read some conflicting info.

everything from machined brake surfaces only to machining is a waste of time.

is there any sort of general consensus?

I've always thought painted is no good, anondized is OK but machined is best.

this again?

basically your brake will machine the paint/ano off the rim each time you squeeze the brake, but it will be uneven and look ****ty, and with painted rims your braking will probably suffer during the time it takes to wear the paint off.

we should have a "X days without an accident" counter running as a banner.

I really don't mind the column or banner ads but when the posts start to get resized to be able to fit the extra ads on the screen it's getting a bit excessive

yeah, I agree. Its one of the reasons i decided to pony up the $ recently.

Edit...Back on topic...I bought an Alien wheelset with anodized sidewalls, running a front brake, and rubbed through the anodizing in a couple of weeks. Doesn't look as good as a machined rim up close and doesnt' look as clean as a brakeless rim from afar. But I want my brake.
