Foo - The Maximan1 teaching/learning thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This is where I will be posting all my questions about driving.
I will be getting my licence soon and I need to learn.

Question 1:
Hard to see because of the tree, but thats like a concrete island circle in the middle of that intersection.
If I go straight through, do I turn on a turn on either turn signal? What if I'm turning left?

I don't have another forum to post this in, sorry.

you go around the island and then turn left. I would signal my intention so that approaching traffic knows.

+1. Always remember to signal.

If I need to go straight up through the intersection, do I turn on any turn signals?
v1k1ng1001 (http://www.bikeforums.net/member.php?u=69128) and x136, I don't recall the e-brake being used for anything besides parking.

Why do people with a mid life crisis on their hands think that the rules of the road do not apply to them?

I dunno if I'd signal. Maybe for a really big traffic circle, but not in a small one like that. But then again, I've had taxi drivers say you should never signal because "then people know where you're going and will cut you off."

The Dukes of Hazzard television show and The Blues Brothers will teach you all you need to know about driving. I feel confident that once you have viewed these learning aids, you will know how to deal with the faux roundabout.

Signal which way?

Left or right?

I meant LEGAL driving advice, thank you

He's talking about a roundabout, which the intersection in the image above is not. You'd know which way to signal if entering/exiting a roundabout. You needn't signal if going straight through the intersection above.

If you are going forward (always forward, never straight) then do not signal. Handle a right as you normally would. Handle a left by driving three quarter around the circle, counter clockwise and signal when you are leaving the stop sign that you intend to turn left.

When you hit the ripe old age of 18, come back and tell us how many tickets you have :) .

I went forward in time, and Bikeforums was destroyed by the government (cause bikes are good for the enviroment), but I still don't have any tickets.

I work for the world wide radio, and I wear dreads.

Well, once you really turn 18, come back and tell us how many tickets you have :) .

Of course, you won't be able to do that if BikeForums has been destroyed, but I'm betting that you went the wrong direction...

O CARP you're a mod

don't worry about it, I try to remember to imply that he's an idiot regularly.

Okay, there's one thing I feel I need to say since you are a future driver.
When you're making a turn, turn from the inside lane to the inside lane or from the outside lane to the outside lane. Nobody in Huntsville is capable of making a correct turn. I've almost been hit many times by these idiots who take wide turns. When you turn left from a turn lane, go to the inside lane, again. When you turn right from a stop light, turn into the inner most lane. You'd be surprised how many people around here can't manage that.

Ahh giving him a hard time. I'm going to be 18 this year, been driving since I was 16, no tickets yet(knock on wood).

Some advice: Get your self some blind spot mirrors. I think they are called spots, just look from them in the automotive sections. They are small round mirrors. When you change lanes, you look over your shoulder to check the blind spot, with these you just look at your mirror.

Only because Maxi was asking, "Why do people with a mid life crisis on their hands think that the rules of the road do not apply to them?"

You have obviously avoided the pitfall of thinking that the rules of the road do not apply to you, no matter what your age ;) .
