Southern California - China! Tomorrow! Yaaaay!!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Congrats! Which piece?
Oh, and if last weekend included anything by Morten Lauridsen or Eric Whitacre, I'm going to kick myself for missing it. No tears shed if you sang anything by Glass, Adams, or the likes. Sorry if that's your thing.

Nope, no Whitacre or Lauridsen. :( No Glass or Adams either though. :)
The piece we're premiering in China is Steve Rothstein's Hymn of Light, a 14 movement piece for sop alto tenor bass soloists, choir, and wind ensemble. We premiered it last winter. It's rather pretty, though some parts in the instrumental part make me go ICK. Ah well, it's his composition, not mine...
Chucklehead...dunno if they'll let me bring that on the plane :p

Congrats! Whereabouts will you be going?
I had the privilege of spending a summer there back in '99 teaching English in Kunming (Yunnan province), and it was really neat to witness the meshing of the old and the modern - people getting by on bikes everywhere, riding past the Wal-Mart that had just sprouted up on the way to PriceSmart (otherwise known to us as Costco). Venture a bit into the countryside or the mountainous region, and you get views that will take your breath away.
Have a good, safe trip. Go easy on those pirated DVD's now . . . ;)

BTW, if you still have time, get immunization shots (Hep A/B, etc.) and eat to your heart's content! :D

Have fun in China. I had an interesting trip there nearly 10 years ago. There is so much to see and do that one will never get bored. Hopefully you will find the people as nice as my father and I did.

Going to Shanghai first, then Beijing, two concerts at each city (well, three at Beijing but one is an informal mall concert).
Dave, I'm updated on my shots, so yaaaaay street food! :p
I'm currently stuck at SFO because my flight was delayed! 6hrs layover
Oh well, thank god for T-mobile wifi.

Thanks :D I didn't bring the folder because we're only allowed 1 piece of luggage (for logistics reasons, not because the airline won't let us). But! I will shop for a folder there if I have time.

Good thing, since nekohime says she can only have one piece of luggage  !
How can she possibly bring us back enough souvenirs with only one piece of luggage?

China is a very large, populous, beautiful country with a complex culture, government and society. It is very unfortunate that all we seem to hear from the media and government is negative, because I can quite honestly say I have never met a Chinese I didn't like. The Tibet situation gets attention, and that's for the best, but we need to keep in mind that none of our respective countries has an unblemished record. None. <sigh>
I very much hope you enjoy your trip, it sounds like a blast. I'll make it there one of these days to tour various archaeological sites that have always interested me. Good luck, and break a leg with your performance, it seems like it will be awesome.
Just got back from nekohime's concert. It was great! :D She was fantastic as the alto soloist, and the selection of folk songs, spirituals and show tunes were a lot of fun. Shenandoah gave me goosebumps... a seriously good choir.
The only problem was there wasn't an encore... the man sitting next to me agreed ;)

Wow! The air reminds of the bad old days in LA...that's ghastly.
Still, it sounds as if you were in excellent voice, according to gbcb, and that's a good thing!

It's mist! It's not pollution! I hope.
(Well, some of it is mist... it did improve in the afternoon)
